Top 100 2025 CB Plans to “Come Back to L.A.” for Second USC Visit

Top 100 2025 CB Plans to “Come Back to L.A.” for Second USC Visit

Coach Donte Williams and USC offered 2025 cornerback and current Michigan commit Chris Ewald Jr. back in January. in 2023 the Trojans are likely a year away from luring elite players from south Florida, but Riley and company have secured verbal commits from several 2024 targets USC had no shot with a year ago.

Two of the top 2024 players from Georgia are currently committed to USC and there’s still a chance the Trojans could add another. Top 100 prospects Kameryn Fountain and Walter Matthews committed to USC after their official visits in June. Five-Star Buford (GA) DL Eddrick Houston announces his school choice on August 22.

Chances are low the Trojans land Houston, but they are the main competition for the Buckeyes. That’s a reflection of his opinion of head coach Lincoln Riley, DL coach Shaun Nua and the USC football program. If USC vastly improves defensively this season, they’ll likely start getting more elite defensive recruits like Houston.

USC also has a verbal commit from Alabama’s No. 1 2025 prospect in Safety Anquon Fegans, so the Trojans have already shown the ability to attract top talent from around the nation. It obviously helped USC gaining a commitment from Fegans’ older brother and Alabama Safety transfer Tre’Quon Fegans, but that happened after the Fegans family experienced a weekend at USC.

Ewald had his first opportunity to visit USC on June 14. He also visited five other schools in June. Miami (6/1), Florida State (6/8), Tennessee (6/2), USC (6/14) and Michigan (6/22).

USC

Four-Star 2025 Georgia Safety Jontae Gilbert told us in June USC was a Top School after his first unofficial visit. He’s since decommitted from Ohio State and the Trojans remain a legitimate option. Although we definitely won’t imply Ewald will decommit from Michigan, he said there are plans to head back to USC for a second visit.

“There were a lot of prospects at USC the day I visited, but I’m just glad I got to see the campus and have another conversation with Coach Donte,” Ewald said.

Prior to the USC visit Ewald didn’t have regular communications with USC, but the Trojans have since picked up their effort. That effort and Ewald’s interest are what will likely lead him back for that second visit. A visit that could happen during the season if time permits.

“I plan on coming back to L.A.,” Ewald told WeAreSC on Tuesday.

The 5-foot-11, 161-pound Michigan commits holds 23 total offers. Prior to committing to Michigan in December, Ewald was actually favored to commit to Miami, although Michigan was in second place prior to his pledge.

RPM was released to the public in December 2021. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

On3 NIL Valuation

Ewald has an On3 NIL Valuation of $76K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

USC’s 2025 class

USC holds one commitment in the 2025 class in Oxford (Ala.) Thompson four-star safety Anquon Fegans.

Fegans is the No. 30 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked as the No. 4 player in Alabama.
