Top 10 ranked Dylan Mingo breaks down his recruitment and talks schools and process
Dylan Mingo is currently the No. 9 overall player and the No. 2 point guard in On3’s 2026 rankings. The 6-foot-4 Mingo is a rising junior at Long Island (NY) Lutheran School and played this summer with the PSA Cardinals program on Nike’s E16 Circuit.
“I’m a point guard who can really play defense,” Mingo told On3. “I play of defensive intensity. I’m a winner, I do whatever it takes for my team to win. Recently, I’ve been watching a lot of Stephon Castle and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.”
On3 was able to catch up with four-star Dylan Mingo recently to discuss the latest in his recruitment.
“I have offers from schools like USC, Florida State, Penn State, and some others,” Mingo said. “It’s a lot of schools calling right now to be honest. I haven’t taken any unofficials or set any visits up to anyone yet.”
Mingo talks recruitment
PENN STATE: “They got a huge school. I speak with their coaches a lot, they’re really good at reaching out. They watch all of my games, so I know they’re into me as a player. I like what they’re building over there, they’ll be a winning program.”
USC: “I’ve loved Coach (Eric) Musselman ever since he was at Arkansas. I like how he lets his guards rock out. Guards like Anthony Black, JD Notae, and Ricky Council, I enjoyed watching them, and I like him as a coach.”
FLORIDA STATE: “Just win. That is what they keep telling me. Really their message right now is, “Do everything you got to do to be a winner and to go out there and be a leader.”
“Alabama, hasn’t offered yet, but they’re in contact,” Mingo said.
In Dylan Mingo’s words
Dylan Mingo’s older brother Kayden Mingo is a four-star prospect in the 2025 class. The older Mingo has set six upcoming official visits (Penn State, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Georgia, and Xavier) in his recruiting process.
“It would be great to play with my brother,” Mingo said. “But we are on our own journey, I want schools to recruit him for him and to recruit me for me. If it happens that the best fit for both of us, then that would be great.”
Even with Mingo’s recruitment just starting, he does have an idea of what he will be looking for in a school.
“I got to watch a lot of college basketball over the next two years,” Mingo said. “I’ll need to go through this recruiting process and choose what program is right for me to make it to the next level. I want to be great as a pro. But some things I know I’m going to be looking for is a winning program. Hard coaching, I want to play for a coach that will push me no matter how highly rated I am. And I want to play for a coach who really wants to win.”
