Tim Tebow on Deion Sanders’ success at Colorado: ‘He’s doing it his way’

Colorado and Deion Sanders have become the talk of college football in just two short weeks, earning an appearance on ESPN’s GameDay and taking up a huge chunk of the TV talk time on major sports programs.
One ESPN analyst can’t get enough of it.
“I love it, but I also love it because he’s doing it his way,” Tim Tebow told On3’s Nick Kosko in an exclusive interview. “And I love it because he’s doing it with such passion and love and belief and build-up of young me. I think that’s something that sometimes gets missed.”
It’s hard to miss that aspect of Prime’s Colorado at the moment. Whatever talent disadvantages Colorado might have started the year with, it sure doesn’t look that way on the field when they line up and take on opponents.
The head coach has found the perfect way to motivate his players.
“Look at what he says to them. Look at the way he’s able to believe in them, pour into them,” Tebow said. “I think if you were to talk to a lot of his players, they believe they can do more and accomplish more after they’ve been around him than before. That’s the sign of a good coach. That’s the sign of building confidence. That’s the sign of encouragement, of real encouragement. And I love that.”
The fact that College GameDay is coming to Colorado just three weeks into the season is testimony to the job Deion Sanders has done so far.
After all, who could have envisioned that a year ago?
“If we were talking about a year ago from today, that’s interesting. I’d be like who’s the coach, what are we doing?” Kosko said of the GameDay appearance on the Andy Staples On3 show. “I’ve been high on Deion and Colorado since December, so basically when he was hired. But I did not expect this right away, at least the mania behind it.”
Even Staples has been taken aback by the sheer speed at which the Sanders narrative has taken off and exploded.
“It is amazing how much our perspectives have changed on this,” Staples said. “I was one who thought ultimately would work because he’s good at bringing in talent. But I didn’t know that they would be able to build a roster that would be this effective this quickly. That’s the part that I think is kind of amazing.”
Again, that just speaks to the kind of belief Deion Sanders has created within the program. When you have full buy-in from your players, it’s possible to be more than the sum of the parts.
That seems to be a textbook definition for Colorado so far.
Now it’s on the Buffaloes to continue seizing the opportunity to make the most of it and see just how far they can carry things.
“I love that he talks about being ready for the moment,” Tebow said. “He doesn’t shy away from it, and I love that, and I think his players feed off of that. I think you will continue to see more players be intrigued by the way he’s doing it, because I think there’s a lot of players that want to have pressure on them, but they also want to be encouraged and inspired in the moment. That’s what Prime is doing.”
