Tidbits: LSU’s push in Texas, update on target’s decision

LSU has a target announcing a decision soon and the staff continues to make a push in Texas. We share the latest from the recruiting trail in these tidbits.
*** 2025 Arlington (Tex.) Horn offensive tackle Lamont Rogers is one of the best offensive linemen in America and Brad Davis has LSU right in the mix. Programs like USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others are also involved, but he wants to get to Baton Rouge soon for a visit. Rogers said he’s eyeing a decision at the end of his junior season, but he does seem pretty open. He visited Oklahoma already this fall. LSU had a lot of the buzz this summer and getting him on campus is in the works. There’s an LSU-friendly buzz around the Horn program that could help as well. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Rogers ranks as the No. 40 overall prospect and No. 8 offensive tackle in the country.
*** 2025 Tyler (Tex.) Chapel Hill athlete Demetrius Brisbon was dynamic at quarterback for the Bulldogs in a 42-22 win over Nacogdoches on Friday. He’s committed to SMU as a safety and there are numerous programs still in touch with him. Brisbon’s a New Orleans native and Baton Rouge is somewhere he definitely wants to get to. Texas already hosted him this fall and those are the two schools challenging for him right now. LSU safeties coach Kerry Cooks is in contact and it wouldn’t shock me if the On300 prospect takes a visit.
*** 2024 Brunswick (Ga.) linebacker Devin Smith is set to announce his decision on Friday and LSU was right in the thick of it to land him coming off the Bayou Splash. That said, the buzz lies around Kentucky right now. I’ve put in an On3 RPM pick for the Wildcats to win out here. Smith keeps a tight lid on things and there was plans to take an official visit to LSU for the Arkansas game. With his decision before that, Kentucky does have confidence to get him on board. His visit to Lexington to kick off the season gave the Wildcats a chance to really turn up the heat on him as a top tier target for that staff. The reality is LSU has Davhon Keys, Xavier Atkins and Tylen Singleton committed at linebacker, making him more of a luxury.
*** 2025 Duncanville (Tex.) quarterback Keelon Russell is a prospect LSU’s keeping in contact with as an option at quarterback. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine already had the Mustangs as the leader and I added my prediction for SMU to land him last week. Russell, a Top 100 prospect and Top 10 quarterback for On3, told us he’s planning a decision soon. While Ole Miss is recruiting him hard, I like where SMU stands to land him, especially with an ACC logo now. LSU’s been in contact with him a lot, he told On3 this week ahead of his decision. If LSU ends up engaging with him further, Joe Sloan will likely have to flip him from the hometown school, which also boasts one of the top collectives in the nation. That said, Russell does have a good bit of interest in LSU so he’d likely give the Tigers a serious look.
