Three-star receiver CJ Simon enjoys first visit to Kansas State
Kansas State continues to host many talented football visitors over the Spring.
The second Junior Day event was on April 6 with many prospects on hand. A main headliner was Moore, Oklahoma wide receiver CJ Simon. He is a former Nebraska commit who chose to bolt from the Huskers and open up his recruitment.
It was Simon’s first trip to Manhattan, but K-State left him impressed.
“It was great,” he said. “I got a chance to watch practice and see how the players and coaches interacted. I also got a chance to sit with Coach [Matthew] Middleton and Coach [Matt] Wells. We spoke about how I would fit in at K-State. And of course we watched position film. Overall, it was a great visit and I can’t wait to get back on campus.”
As of now, the plan for Middleton and Wells for Simon would be for him to play in the slot.
“It’s cool,” Simon shared. “I’m familiar with the position.”
Simon also identified the highlights from his Kansas State trip.
“My favorite part was getting a chance to sit with the coaches and really getting to know them,” he pointed out. “You can tell they really pour into their players and help them develop.”
It was the first time that the three-star wideout from the Oklahoma City area was able to spend extended time with the K-State receivers coach. Middleton has more of a feel for the campus and university now that he has been on campus for more than a year. He’s also connecting more with Simon as well.
“It was great being around him,” Simon admitted. “He’s got that juice. He really brings energy to the receivers group. I’ve been enjoying building relationships with the different staff members and learning about the team and their style of play.”
He shared what he learned about Kansas State.
“I learned about nutrition and recovery,” Simon answered. “And how many academic All-Americans they’ve had and how academics is a priority.
Simon discussed his other visits, too.
“Each visit is different,” he replied. “I just always try to see how I would fit in and get the feel of all the coaches and the school. My recruitment is 100 percent open and I just want to get a good feel of all the schools I visit.”
No official visits have been scheduled at this time.
