CPA (Tenn.) offensive tackle John Wayne Oliver just wrapped up his official visit to Ole Miss over the weekend. Now he turns his attention to his final trip to TCU. Then the three-star prospect says he will “most likely” make a decision shortly after.
The 6-foot-5, 280 pound recruit from Nashville, Tenn., had been to Oxford, Miss., twice before. But this weekend’s trip was “different”.
“Everything was great, it was a great time,” Oliver said. “Spent a lot of time with coach (John) Garrison and even got to hang out with the current players and help coach up the kids at camp.”
The On3 Industry Ranking – a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting services – has the 6-foot-5, 270-pound lineman ranked as the No. 435 overall prospect, the No. 26 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 9 player in Tennessee.
Oliver’s time with Garrison was much more than just a good hang with a prospective position coach, though. The Tennessee lineman says the two talked about a specific player he coached and why Garrison believes he has the ability to be great.
“Coach told me I remind him a lot of Ikem Ekwonu,” Oliver said. “They want me as an offensive tackle and the staff thinks he and I have a lot of similarities. Our playing style, too. They think I can be like him.”

John Wayne Oliver also had a chance to sit down with Lane Kiffin over the weekend.
“He’s a lot more laid back and soft spoken,” Oliver said. “Not many people realize that. He’s way different from Twitter. We talked about some football but mostly just hanging out.”
Oliver will head to Fort Worth, Tex., this weekend to check out Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs. TCU is also recruiting Oliver as an offensive tackle, a position Oliver believes is his best.
“I can play guard, no problem, but I prefer to be in space,” Oliver said. “I’m athletic enough and I prefer that.”
He tells OMSpirit he will wrap up his trip to TCU then will “most likely” commit afterwards. He says it’s not 100 percent but he feels he is down to Ole Miss and TCU and a decision is likely imminent.
Ole Miss appears to be prioritizing five offensive linemen in the 2024 class.
John Garrison is after four-star Jac’Qawn McRoy and Joseph Cryer announced his commitment two weeks ago. This week, Kahlil House and Jude Foster will be in town for official visits and IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star Jimothy Lewis was back in Oxford over the weekend.

Garrison seems to have an idea who the main targets for the class are. I expect the Rebels to move quickly after official visits wrap up this month.
