Three & Out is Nebraska On3’s feature in which recruiting analyst Bryan Munson gives his weekly takes on topical issues concerning Nebraska football and recruiting.

In this week’s Three & Out, there were several positives from this weekend’s BBQ in Lincoln, the Huskers hosted five OTs from the region this past weekend, and Kalvin Janssen could be the next 2025 in-state player to pick up an offer from Nebraska. Here is your Three & Out:

Several positives from this weekend’s visitor event

Three & Out this week has to lead off with an exciting visitor weekend for Nebraska, with around 30 visitors in Lincoln from the 2024 and 2025 classes. The format was unique, and it was a complete hit. The recruits did a scavenger hunt around the stadium, including some teams being so competitive that they were running from one clue to another.

The families of the recruits stayed behind and did a round of Family Feud. From some of the recruits, this was a big hit allowing the families to get in on the fun of the weekend. There was also a round of Name That Tune with the recruits and their families, which was another successful activity from the weekend.

The format change put the visitors and their families into groups and required them to work as teams, a consistent theme from Matt Rhule since he got to Lincoln. Through the activities, the recruits got to know one another, built a bond, and developed relationships among the recruits on Sunday.

The quantity of underclassmen recruits was very impressive. I can’t personally remember another recruiting event that had this many recruits in Lincoln before the start of their junior year. It’s good to see Nebraska looking ahead since they have 24 commitments in the 2024 class.

Nebraska took advantage of the extra week of recruiting before the start of the dead period to make another push with a couple of 2024 targets and kick things off with some of the top recruits in the region. This is another example of the recruiting calendar continuing to slide left. In years to come, as more of these opportunities pop up, you can expect Nebraska to capitalize on the opportunity and host visitors in Lincoln.

Lots of area OT talent in the 2025 class for Nebraska

A quick review of the visitor list from this past weekend shows a significant number of talented offensive tackles in the area around Nebraska in the 2025 class. This is excellent news! Nebraska is still in the market to take another tackle as part of the 2024 class, and Nebraska should be looking to land multiple offensive tackles in the 2025 class too.

Nebraska hosted several offensive tackles that already had an offer and even extended one offer on the weekend to four-star offensive tackle Nick Brooks from Cedar Rapids (Iowa.) John F. Kennedy. Brooks has been getting some serious recruiting attention from Nebraska over the last couple of months from Omar Hales and coach Donovan Raiola.

Here is a list of the offensive tackles that were in attendance this past weekend, and you can expect to push to bring back all of these tackles this fall several times for game day visits.

Keep an eye on 2025 IOL Kalvin Janssen

The BBQ weekend in Lincoln had several headliners, but none of them may be more important than Christian Jones from Omaha (Neb.) Westside. The linebacker position will be critical to the 2025 class on the defensive side of the ball, and Jones has the potential to fit at both inside and outside linebacker positions in college.

Jones is the only remaining 2025 player from Nebraska with an offer that hasn’t committed to the Huskers. Several are wondering who might be the next player from Nebraska to pick up an offer from the 2025 class. I will offer up my suggestion of a name to keep an eye on Kalvin Janssen.

Janssen, an IOL from Gretna (Neb.), is a 6-foot-4 and 265-pound junior that may have the best chance from the remaining D1 targets in the state from the 2025 class to get an offer from Nebraska. There are several things to like when you put on Janssen’s film and look at what Nebraska would like in him and why he’s a fit at Nebraska.

Janssen played right tackle his sophomore year, shows good athleticism, and loves to finish his blocks. He is a player that does not need to be reminded to go to the whistle. He gets on his block, drives them back, or puts them into the ground. There are several similarities between Janssen and other IOL in the 2024 class, like Landen Davidson and Gibson Pyle.

Janssen, like Davidson and Pyle, plays OT in high school. It’s a much easier ask for the tackle to move inside, where speed isn’t as much of a factor because of the limitation of space and area playing inside. Janssen, Davidson, and Pyle don’t take plays off and enjoy dishing out the punishment to the opposing defense.
