Three & Out: QB Anthony Rezac visiting this weekend, 2025 QB target back in town, and one last run at No. 1 OT Brandon Baker
Three & Out is Nebraska On3’s feature in which recruiting analyst Bryan Munson gives his weekly takes on topical issues concerning Nebraska football and recruiting.
In this week’s Three & Out, is Omaha Westside quarterback Anthony Rezac an option for Nebraska, another good sign for Nebraska with 2025 quarterback Alex Manske, and Nebraska hosts top offensive tackle Brandon Baker this weekend. Here is your Three & Out:
Anthony Rezac to visit Nebraska this weekend
Daniel Kaelin became priority No. 1 for Matt Rhule and his staff once Dylan Raiola committed to Georgia. The Huskers told the Bellevue West quarterback how it would happen “if” they missed on Raiola. And Nebraska followed through on that plan and got Kaelin to flip.
Recently, though, there has been a microscope on recruits’ stats. A few on Nebraska’s commitment list stand out, like Carter Nelson, Kewan Lacy, and a defensive player like Carlon Jones (when high schools enter defensive stats).
Ask Kaelin, and he will tell you he wants to perform better. He wants Bellevue West to win. And Bellevue West has more significant issues than just on the offensive side of the ball. They want to play better as a team, and as we all know from looking at Nebraska this season, you can’t completely hide one side of the football from the other.
And while Kaelin wishes he was doing better and Bellevue West was doing better, he is still Nebraska’s guy. The Huskers may be keeping another Omaha quarterback interested and warm. Anthony Rezac, from Omaha (Neb.) Westside posted on his social media that he was invited to the home opener this weekend.
Rezac, whose Westside team just beat Kaelin and Bellevue West last weekend, is widely considered to be the best quarterback in Omaha, if not the state of Nebraska. His Westside team is crushing opponents, and he has played a significant role in their success.
He is 34-for-45 for 530 yards through three games and completes 76% of his passes. He’s also thrown seven touchdowns with zero interceptions. What’s more, he’s rushed for 230 yards on 19 carries, averaging 12.1 yards per carry, and has scored three touchdowns.
Those numbers are hard for Nebraska to ignore, and understandably so.
The fact is that with the portal, a couple of quarterbacks like Heinrich Haarberg and Chubba Purdy competed this spring and this summer and are now neck and neck this fall. The picture can always change, and Nebraska needs to remember that. Besides the obvious, Anthony’s production and the success that he’s having, Nebraska could be looking at their roster as the bigger picture.
I am sure several schools are keeping tabs on Anthony, whose brother Teddy Rezac is already committed to Notre Dame, and considering him for their class. What is Nebraska’s move? Does Nebraska take a second scholarship QB, or are there other options like NIL that could be attractive enough?
It will be interesting to hear what Nebraska shares with Rezac after this weekend in Lincoln.
Another good sign for Nebraska with 2025 QB Alex Manske
Things changed quickly this summer. Nebraska had a top quarterback target with Stone Saunders. Saunders visited Nebraska early in the year, was blown away by the interest from Nebraska’s new staff, and planned his next visit. Saunders would visit Nebraska two more times.
But in June, something changed. Saunders visited Kentucky after Nebraska, and the Huskers hosted another junior quarterback for camp, Alex Manske. Manske was impressive during the camp and picked up an offer from the Huskers.
Less than a week later, Manske took an unofficial visit, and before the dead period began in August, he was back on campus for the end of the summer BBQ. It was an excellent sign for the Huskers that they could get Manske about a week after the offer and again before the end of the summer.
Here is another good sign: Manske will be back in Lincoln for Matt Rhule’s first home game as head coach at Nebraska. The Huskers have zeroed in on Manske, and he will stop short in interviews to call himself their top target, but he is.
What’s interesting about Manske is that earlier this week, the talented signal-caller finally picked up an offer from Iowa State. The 6-foot-3 and 205-pound Manske has visited Iowa State twice and didn’t get an offer.
What’s more, Iowa State consistently beats Nebraska to the punch to offer in-state players from Nebraska. Recently, Iowa State has been the first to offer players like Benjamin Brahmer, who they later flipped, Carter Nelson, Pierce Mooberry, and 2026 athlete Kaprice Keith, who has ties to Nebraska and Iowa State.
In previous interviews, Manske said that he wants to get through his sophomore year and then decide before the end of the calendar year. Manske is having a big sophomore year, which could bring more attention beyond Iowa State. After two games, he had 553 yards passing, another 171 yards rushing, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions.
It’s a great sign that Manske is back in Lincoln. The Huskers will push to get him back as often as possible. Nebraska wants Manske only thinking about his future playing for the Huskers.
A final run at Brandon Baker
Some of the biggest news of this weekend is official visitor Brandon Baker. The No. 1 offensive tackle will be back in Lincoln for the third time since March, when he visited for a big junior day, and returned again in April for the Nebraska spring game.
One thing has been very clear about Baker with Nebraska: he likes the Huskers. He likes the coaching staff and what’s going on in Lincoln. And when people thought he wouldn’t blaze his own trail, would follow his brother who played at Oregon, Texas is trending now for Baker.
And Nebraska is definitely on the outside looking in, but the Huskers at least are in the picture. Baker has the Huskers in his top or final five (however you want to look at it because he plans to announce shortly after the visit to Lincoln). Nebraska has the final chance to try and influence Baker their way.
And how bad is Nebraska on the outside looking in? I have seen crazier things happen. But it’s definitely significant with Baker. He has schools like Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, and Georgia on his list to go with Nebraska. If you’re looking at this list and had to guess what it was you might say which one is not like the others instead of guessing it’s Baker’s final list.
That challenges Nebraska. The Huskers that are off to an 0-2 start and looking to get Rhule’s time in Lincoln on the right foot and show that they are on the right path. While the other schools on Baker’s list are a combined 8-0 and include the reigning back-to-back national champs.
But, with that success, you can assume that there is a significant amount of talent at those schools. The type of talent that could keep some talented incoming freshmen from seeing the field immediately. Nebraska needs that talent on the offensive line. They need Baker, and a clear path to the playing field along with NIL should be how Nebraska tries to entice Baker.
It’s a long shot. Probably the longest of long shots. But you can expect Nebraska to try and put together an approach to get Baker to look past those perfect starts for the other teams on his list and focus on playing early and turning things around in Lincoln.
It’s a serious long shot. But it’s a shot that Nebraska is happy that they can even be able to take. The Huskers aren’t supposed to be here with Baker. Look at that final five list again. Give credit to Rhule for even making it possible with Baker.
