Three & Out: Gatlin Bair’s announcement, Grant Brix headlines 2024 visitors this week, and important group of 2025 visitors this weekend

Three & Out is Nebraska On3’s feature in which recruiting analyst Bryan Munson gives his weekly takes on topical issues concerning Nebraska football and recruiting.
In this week’s Three & Out, Gatlin Bair’s commitment announcement is approaching, but when it’s over, it’s not really over, Grant Brix headlines 2024 visitors in town this week for Nebraska, and Nebraska hosts a critical group of 2025 visitors this weekend. Here is your Three & Out:
Gatlin Bair’s pending commitment announcement
If there is one recruit that massively changed from March to July, it’s Gatlin Bair. Bair visited Nebraska for their junior day on March 25th. Bair was blown away by that weekend. Nebraska wide receivers coach Garret McGuire didn’t leave Bair’s side while he was in Lincoln. It was the red carpet treatment.
Bair knew it too, and McGuire impressed him. The age of McGuire stood out to Bair, but Bair saw it as a strength. Bair was also impressed with head coach Matt Rhule from how coach Rhule coached during practice to the one-on-one time that he got.
The visit was a “9” for Bair, and the On3 RPM peaked for Nebraska at 91.9% on April 16th. A lot has changed for the speedy Bair.
Bair took official visits to TCU, Oregon, and Michigan. The RPM changed from Nebraska leading comfortably in April to Michigan taking over the lead in mid-June, leaving Nebraska in a six-team tie for fourth place with just a 1.8% chance of landing Bair.
But it’s not really over even when things end for Bair with his commitment on August 5th. Yes, he’s committing and will sign with a school. I am referring to the pending mission trip Bair plans to take before he even enrolls in college.
The commitment likely puts that school in a great spot to get Bair back after the mission. But for the 2024 class, the commitment of Bair to a school is a star grab. Bair doesn’t have to go to the school he signs with as part of the 2024 class. He can keep his options open.
As far as schools that could really keep the heat on Bair and improve their overall position among the top five schools, there might not be a school more poised to do it than Nebraska. Rhule will have a couple of seasons under his belt, and Bair can get a feeling for how the turnaround is going in Lincoln.
Bair can absorb the new information over the next two years while on his mission and decide to choose another school. It’s happened before. The process isn’t over on August 5th. Nebraska has a two-year window to catch Bair’s eye again.
Grant Brix headlines 2024 visitors this week for Nebraska
Nebraska is making the most of every available recruiting day, week, and window. The Huskers have a Bar-B-Q scheduled for Sunday but started hosting visitors yesterday, and they have another big one coming on Friday and then an event to wrap up the summer. That visitor list on Sunday includes just about all of the area commitments and one of the top remaining targets on Nebraska’s board: Grant Brix.
The Huskers get the last swing to host Brix following him also visiting Kansas State and Oklahoma earlier in the week. It might not be a commitment alert type of weekend with Brix, but a commitment is getting closer, and it’s excellent for Nebraska to get the last opportunity before fall camp begins.

Important group of 2025 visitors in town this weekend
Nebraska picked up their only two commitments in the 2025 class between April 20th and June 9th. The Huskers get a chance to get those two in-state commitments back on campus to start working on an essential group of 2025 visitors.
In the group, the Huskers are hosting several top targets in next year’s class, including four-star linebacker Christian Jones. Alex Manske, the likely top quarterback target in the 2025 class for Nebraska, will also be in Lincoln, which makes the third visit for the talented signal-caller.
