‘They stand out the most’ … 5-star DL Armondo Blount raves about Florida State win over LSU
Even though it wasn’t a home game, this was a huge recruiting weekend for Florida State as some of the top prospects in the South got a chance to watch the Seminoles’ victory live and in person in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.
One of the big targets in attendance was 2025 five-star defensive tackle Armondo Blount, who had very high praise for the Seminoles and what he saw from the FSU defense in the second half.
“That was my first ever Florida State game, and it was really intense,” the Miami Central standout said. “The crowd was going crazy and matched the team’s energy, so it was great all around.”
Because the game was played at a neutral site, Blount and the other recruits weren’t allowed to go down on the field like they would inside Doak Campbell Stadium. Nevertheless, Blount said he got a very good view of the Florida State defensive line, and he came away impressed.
“The defensive line was very active with their hands,” he said. “One lineman would make a push, but then the entire line would swarm and make the sack. They were all a strong unit. Even though they rotated a lot of guys, they still had the same look with the defense, and I liked that.
“I saw some of the same things Coach Odell (defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins) did in practice. Their hand placement was very similar, and they did the same exact thing in the game.”
Coming into the game, Blount said he knew FSU had a very good team, but he wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. The way the Seminoles blew LSU out in the second half clearly caught his attention.
“FSU had a strong team, and so did LSU,” the Miami product said. “So it was a battle early, and then FSU brought it home because they were the stronger team. In the second half, they came out fresh and strong like it was the first quarter.”
Even before this game, Florida State was making a very strong impression on Blount. The five-star prospect has grown especially close with Haggins and head coach Mike Norvell.
“Everything he said happened in the game,” Blount said of Norvell. “He called it right out. I definitely feel like I would fit in at FSU if I were to go there. They have my type of vibe. It’s the team bond. Like when LSU was at the 1-yard line, all of them showed up and got the stop. That’s the type of guys I want to be around with that heart.”
On Haggins: “The conversations with him are now more fluent. Like he’s already my coach. With his style, he is a person I could be around outside of football. His personality, he’s not a fake person. Even when it’s not football, he’s the same person.”
The five-star recruit also stated what he’s looking for in his recruitment.
“When I look at a school, I’m seeing how that school can develop me as a player and a man,” Blount said. “[Florida State] is one of the top schools in doing this. Every time I go there, I see something new. They stand out the most right now. Just the culture, coaching style … I could go on for days about what they do.”
Even Florida State’s fans made a big impression on Blount on Sunday night.
“They are funny but they are crazy,” he said. “Their fans were wild. They were so loud.”
Just last week, Blount told On3’s Chad Simmons that he soon will narrow down his list of schools and that Florida State and Miami will definitely make that list.
