The Scoop: Wave of big QB visitors on tap

LSU quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan is continuing to build for the future in Baton Rouge, and the coming weekend will give the Tigers a chance to host some of the top underclassmen in America.
The headliner is five-star Bryce Underwood, who is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
LSU will also host Florida four-star quarterback Carter Smith, who is ranked as the No. 3 quarterback recruit in the 2025 cycle.
Sloan will also have a top 2026 target on campus in Jared Curtis, who is one of only two 2026 quarterback recruits who holds an offer from LSU following his freshman season this past fall.
Underwood highlights a big visitor group in Baton Rouge
While the Tigers are set to host a handful of official visitors for the 2024 class, the highest-ranked recruit on campus this weekend will be Michigan five-star Bryce Underwood. Underwood is ranked by On3 as not just the nation’s top quarterback prospect in the 2025 class, but also the No. 1 overall prospect in the cycle.
Underwood has offers from double-digit college programs, but there’s buzz behind the scenes that LSU and Michigan have emerged as the top contenders. The in-state Wolverines have gotten Underwood to campus plenty of times, but LSU has countered with multiple visits over the past six months.
Now, Underwood will be back on campus for a multi-day stay, and he’s expected to compete in this weekend’s Friday Night Lights even at LSU.
Thanks to the consistent push by Sloan, LSU is firmly in the race for the nation’s top quarterback in the 2025 class.
Smith hits LSU on final camp weekend
Sloan and LSU moved through the past year with offers out to just two 2025 quarterbacks: Bryce Underwood and George MacIntyre.
Underwood is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback prospect by On3, while MacIntyre checks in at No. 2.
Now, Sloan and the Tigers have On3’s No. 3 quarterback prospect on campus for a visit.
Smith, a four-star who is ranked as a Top 20 overall prospect nationally, will arrive at LSU on Thursday and remain on campus through Friday. That will give Smith the chance to compete at LSU’s Friday Night Lights camp, which could bring a scholarship offer for the rising junior.
Sloan and LSU have remained in constant contact with Smith as evaluations continue in the 2025 class. At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Smith has a double-digit offer list that includes many of the top teams in America.
Jared Curtis a name to remember for the 2026 class
Looking ahead to the 2026 crop of quarterbacks, Nashville Christian School rising sophomore Jared Curtis is a name to put atop the watch list.
Curtis joins Georgia’s Julian Lewis as the lone two quarterbacks from the 2026 class who have already landed an offer from the LSU staff.
Now, Curtis will be on hand for a visit to Baton Rouge this weekend. That will give him the opportunity to compete at the program’s Friday Night Lights camp, which is also expected to feature a pair of elite 2025 quarterbacks in Bryce Underwood and Carter Smith.
With more than 20 college offers, Curtis is expected to be one of the most-coveted recruits in the 2026 cycle.
