The Rundown: The latest intel on 5 key Auburn recruiting targets

The Rundown: The latest intel on 5 key Auburn recruiting targets

There is the RPM Rundown, then there is the non-RPM Rundown. In this version, we will talk through five Auburn recruiting targets who have not received an RPM prediction to Auburn.

There are five recruits with an RPM prediction to Auburn as of today:

— 4-star LB Demarcus Riddick, Clanton (Ala.) Chilton County
— 4-star CB Jalyn Crawford, Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview
— 4-star RB Alvin Henderson, Elba (Ala.)
— 3-star LB Wyatt Simmons, Searcy (Ark.) Harding Academy
— UR OT Reese Baker, Huntsville (Ala.) Madison Academy

There will be an explanation on why there is not a pick in for each recruit, Auburn’s chances with each recruit, and the latest intel.

Here is the latest intel on five key Auburn recruiting targets.

WR – Perry Thompson, Foley (Ala.)

WHY THERE IS NO PREDICTION: Thompson, despite visiting and hearing Auburn out for months now, remains committed to Alabama. Recent history says that Alabama keeps who it wants to keep. Also, Alabama has had enough success with receivers to win these battles. It is too difficult to make an Auburn prediction on this one.

THE LATEST: While things have been quiet on this front, at last check, Auburn has had some confidence about its chances at flipping Thompson since his official visit on the weekend of June 16. That confidence is met with extreme caution for the same reasons mentioned above. Thompson will be at Big Cat Weekend and there is word that if anything were to happen with his commitment status, it could happen while on campus that weekend. Auburn hopes to pull this one off, but it will not be easy.

OL – Deandre Carter, Santa Ana (Cali.) Mater Dei

WHY THERE IS NO PREDICTION: When Carter officially visited Auburn, he left saying that a decision had not been thought too much about. He also rattled off a long list of schools he had visited and was interested in. Even though Auburn seemed to grab his attention, he did not seem to be in a hurry. Also, it is tough to predict someone from California to Auburn.

THE LATEST: As of right now, there is no confirmation that Carter will be at Big Cat Weekend, but Auburn is working to get him there. If the Tigers are able to get him back to campus, there is a chance he could leave committed or at least thinking harder about it. Auburn is absolutely one of the top schools for Carter and continues to recruit him as a No. 1 priority. Texas, USC, and Michigan State seem to be the main competition.

Saf. – KJ Bolden, Buford (Ga.)

WHY THERE IS NO PREDICTION: Georgia has been the perceived leader for Bolden for some time. He attends Buford High School which Georgia has had plenty of success recruiting. Ohio State is also heavily involved along with Florida State. The competition is too stiff to make a prediction to Auburn here.

THE LATEST: Georgia is almost certainly in the lead with Ohio State probably very close. Auburn now appears to be running third, or at least tied for third with Florida State. Alabama and Clemson have seemingly slipped as of late. Bolden will be at Auburn for Big Cat Weekend, so the Tigers will get a great shot at him before his commitment announcement on Aug. 5. According to sources, Bolden is legitimately interested in Auburn and wants to give the Tigers a fair shot.

DL – Kamarion Franklin, Lake Cormorant (Miss.)

WHY THERE IS NO PREDICTION: Tennessee has been perceived as a leader in his recruitment for a few months. While that may be true, Ole Miss, Auburn, Miami and Florida State are also in the mix. Franklin seems to be giving all five schools an equal shot. He is somewhat unpredictable, so it is too tough to make a prediction on him.

THE LATEST: Franklin, as of Friday, is still scheduled to visit Auburn on July 27. He has been open about his relationship with Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett. Garrett will get another shot to catch Franklin’s attention about Auburn and an official visit is still on the table. While all five schools are in this, Auburn seems to be surging up some as of late. It is not clear where the Tigers stand, just that their chances of landing him seem to have increased. He may not be in a hurry to commit anywhere, but he could also do it at any time. Franklin has been good at keeping things under wraps.

Saf. – Zaquan Patterson, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna

WHY THERE IS NO PREDICTION: Patterson is a top safety prospect for Auburn, but he also has his eyes on Miami, Michigan, and Ohio State among others. Miami has been thought to be the leader at times, but Patterson is giving each school a hard look. It is not clear where he may be leaning and he has several official visits still on the table. Any Auburn prediction on him may be premature right now.

THE LATEST: Miami has the momentum, but a relationship that goes back over two years with Zac Etheridge is a factor in his recruitment at the least. Auburn is working to get him back on campus for Big Cat Weekend. The last time he was on Auburn’s campus was in March. He and his mother want to visit his top schools so that she can help make the decision. Auburn is high on the list according to sources, maybe right after Miami. It may take a lot to win out over Miami, but Auburn is battling.
