The next Iowa Football commitment will be…

Another day and another verbal commitment to the Class of 2024 for the Iowa football program. While it hasn’t been a daily occurrence since their annual big recruiting weekend at the end of June, it’ sure feels like it.
On Saturday, Iowa landed the commitment of Jaylen Watson, a 5-foot-10 and 160 pound athlete, originally from Michigan, but now finishing his high school career in Toledo. Watson, who is the nephew of former Hawkeye Fred Russell, chose Iowa over offers from Cincinnati, Minnesota, Louisville, and West Virginia. He is slated to play cornerback for the Hawkeyes, but several schools saw him as a wide receiver.
This run has been a fun one for Hawkeye fans. Counting the commitment from Michael Burt, who pledged to Iowa shortly before the official visit weekend started, the Hawkeyes have now landed eight scholarship players in the Class of 2024 during this stretch. They have also received a commitment from Graham Eben, who will be a preferred walk-on and their first verbal commitment from the Class of 2025 in Joey VanWetzinga from Pleasant Valley High School.
Is the run over? Will Iowa be done for a bit when it comes to receiving commitments?
They aren’t done quite yet. Who will be next to join the Hawkeye flock?
Well, there is one more prospect who visited Iowa in late June that has said he will be announcing his decision this month and that’s Chima Chineke from Plano, TX. He’s a three star defensive end that stands 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 240 pounds.
Chineke has offers from Iowa, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas Tech, and others. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has Iowa with a 90.6% chance to land his commitment. I have also logged an RPM for Iowa back on June 26th.
The only other player to not announce plans for a decision from the official visit weekend is Xavier Lucas, a 6-foot-1 and 170 pound safety from Florida. His On3 RPM currently has Illinois on top at 29.3%, Iowa at 25.7%, and Wisconsin at 22.0%. He made official visits to all three schools during the month of June.
There is also the possibility that one of the more local 2025 prospects with Iowa offers end up giving their verbal commitment before the start of their high school practices in August. Some names to watch would be Mason Woods, the son of Special Teams Coordinator LeVar Woods, Nicolia Brooks, a 6-foot-7 and 345 pound offensive lineman from Cedar Rapids Kennedy, or Thomas Meyer, a 6-foot-5 and 210 pound tight end from Clear Lake.
