The LSU Bayou Splash Tidbits: Version 3.0

The LSU Bayou Splash Tidbits: Version 3.0

LSU hosted some top targets and commits for the Bayou Splash on Friday. What’s the latest recruiting intel out of the day in Baton Rouge? We share the latest inside.

*** I feel like LSU made a big push with Acadiana (La.) defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. We talked about how it was key for the Tigers to get him on campus and they did that with his family as well. His brother, 2026 EDGE Darryus McKinley, added an offer from the Tigers. We’ll try to get a full reaction from both brothers soon. Dominick is one that I’m watching for a decision before his senior season. There’s considerable buzz around how good LSU feels like things went for the On3 Top 20 overall prospect. Now it’ll be about hanging onto that buzz as the Tigers look to reel him in before his senior season. LSU’s still got an official visit in the back pocket. The McKinley family keeps things close to the vest and only they truly know where they’re leaning, but Friday was a great step in the right direction here.

*** The offer out to Hinesville (Ga.) Bradwell Institute offensive lineman Elyjah Thurman is intriguing. LSU made waves with Ole Miss commit Joseph Cryer and I still feel great about my On3 RPM pick there. San Marcos (Tex.) offensive tackle Ory Williams is also on commit watch. Factor in LSU hanging right there near the top for four-star offensive lineman Blake Ivy and now there’s a wonder if Brad Davis could have a great problem on his hands of being in a great spot for a slew of linemen. Thurman was blown away, but he’s also said he wants a decision by the end of the season. This visit and offer really struck well with Thurmon, but it could be a race among that crew to see who commits first. Williams and Cryer are expected to be the Tigers at this point then what happens with Ivy and Thurmon? We’ll be watching closely…

*** Four-star linebacker and LSU commit Xavier Atkins ended up visiting Texas A&M instead. I feel like the Aggies have taken ahold of momentum here and are the most likely to flip the Summer Creek (Tex.) prospect. I’ve placed an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick in for him to land with the Aggies. They’ve had him on campus multiple times and have chipped away at this one. I don’t know when, but I get the sense he doesn’t sign with LSU and ends up in College Station.

*** That said, LSU is surging with 2024 Brunswick (Ga.) linebacker Devin Smith, who plans to announce a commitment in the fall. Defensive coordinator Matt House has worked this one well and got him on campus for the Bayou Splash. After reeling in four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton last weekend, I feel like this weekend LSU’s moved to the top of Smith’s list. He said he has LSU squarely in his Top 3 and he really enjoyed himself. I’m waiting for the dust to settle a bit more here, but if he was deciding tomorrow, he’d be a Tiger, in my opinion. I’ll be watching this one closely as LSU looks to beat out Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky and South Carolina. Don’t be surprised to see an On3 RPM from me for him. Despite missing some action last fall, the LSU target tallied 63 tackles, 10 for loss and six sacks.

*** LSU made waves with New Iberia (La.) Westgate defensive back Jaboree Antoine. There are numerous programs after him and he’ll be in College Station on Saturday, but LSU’s visit impressed him. He said it gave him even more thought to staying home in the Boot to play for the Tigers. From Kerry Cooks to Brian Kelly and more, the in-state program did a great job with the Top 30 prospect for On3.
