THE LATEST: Top 100 Texas Wide Receiver Dre’lon Miller and USC

Four-Star Athlete Dre’lon Miller received an offer from USC on October 20. He announced the news on social media.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound junior from Silsbee (Texas) High, received the news of the USC offer after speaking with Inside Receivers Coach Luke Huard. Huard was at Silsbee last week.

Miller’s being recruited by the Trojans to play wide receiver, although he’s also a stand out at Safety for the Tigers. We should add Miller also has Power 5 offers for hoops.

USC signed three 2023 prep receivers in 5-Stars Zachariah Branch, Makai Lemon and 4-Star WR Ja’Kobi Lane. The Trojans also signed Arizona transfer Dorian Singer in December after losing receivers Kyle Ford and Gary Bryant Jr. to the transfer portal. Ford signed with UCLA and last week Bryant signed with Oregon.

The Trojans also lost Jordan Addison to the 2023 NFL Draft. He was selected in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings.

Two Official Visits Set

Last week we asked On3 National Analyst Sam Spiegelman for help confirming a USC official visit date for Miller. At that time we learned Miller had set official visits with USC for June 23-25 and Miami for June 2-4. He’s since changed his USC visit to June 16-18 so he can compete in the June 24-25 Texas State 7v7 Finals with his Silsbee teammates.

This Winter and Spring Miller’s taken several unofficial visits. He’s been to LSU three times, Texas A&M twice, Florida and USC (4/8) once.

THE LATEST with USC

WeAreSC traveled from Atlanta on Saturday morning to see Miller compete in a Texas State 7v7 Championship Qualifier. The event was at Columbia HS in West Columbia (TX), about an hour Southwest of Houston. Silsbee didn’t earn an invite, but the Tigers have two more opportunities for that.

Despite every top program in the country pursuing Miller, he told us he’ll announce his commitment on June 29 after his Miami and USC officials. He shared what took him to Los Angeles for the first place for the April 8 unofficial USC visit.

“Coach (Lincoln) Riley and what he’s down with the program and Caleb (Williams) winning the Heisman, I just had to get out there and check it out for myself,” said Miller. “They have great coaches, great mindsets and football players who want to win. They most definitely have all of that at USC.”

Official Visit Expectaions

“I’m just going out there to see where they want me at my position, see what I can do to help the team win a championship,” Miller said. “They see me playing inside, outside and moving me around. I feel what they like most about me is how competitive I am and how I don’t quit until the end. I’m going to go get every ball thrown my way and catch it…I’m gonna give them my everything.”

Riley and USC already have a commitment from one 2024 wide receiver, Xavier Jordan from Sierra Canyon.

Buc-ee’s, In-N-Out or Whataburger?

If you’re in Houston or Texas in general, Buc-ee’s is a spot highly recommended to hit up. Whether lookin for a meal, snack or an exceptionally clean restroom. I’ve stopped a few times there myself, but only gotten the chopped brisket sandwich.

Miller, who’s no rookie when it comes to the truck stop on steroids, offered his recommendations.

“You’ve gotta go with the pulled pork sandwich or chopped beef,” he said. “Add some Lays (potato chips) and and an ICEE…then you’re right.”

Not sure I’ve ever had a Texas high school football player ever choose In-N-Out over Whataburger, Miller was no different.

“Whataburger,” Miller said. “Everything’s bigger and better in Texas.”

Lincoln Riley’s Impact

“I’d say we have a great relationship with him,” said Miller. “He calls me every week, every Monday. He can’t wait for me to get back out there.”

Commitment Date Set

After Miller takes the Miami and USC Official Visits, he’ll announce his school choice on June 29. That’s the only date set besides his two official visits. He could also take a few official visits in the Fall.

At this point, the feeling we have is USC may be the school to beat. The relationship Miller and his family have with Lincoln Riley and the USC staff is exceptionally strong. Miller’s father, Chris Miller, shared that sentiment with WeAreSC on Saturday afternoon.

Although Miller didn’t see USC play much last season, he offered this take.

“I know what they (USC) can do,” he said.
