The latest on South Carolina portal guard target Jhamir Brickus

As was originally reported by On3’s Jamie Shaw and has now been widely reported, South Carolina is set to host La Salle four-star transfer portal point guard Jhamir Brickus on an official visit this week.

Brickus was set to arrive in Columbia on Wednesday night (and is likely already in town by the time you’re reading this) for his official visit with the bulk of the trip taking place on Thursday and Friday, GamecockCentral is told.

As was mentioned on The Insiders Forum earlier this week, there’s reason for the Gamecocks to be confident here in ultimately landing Brickus, who has emerged as a priority target for the staff, assuming all goes as planned during the visit. Villanova and VCU are the other two programs we’ve heard the most about here.

Brickus earned third-team All-A10 honors this past season after averaging 13.9 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals this season, hitting 40 percent of his 3-point attempts.

On3 considers the 5-foot-11, 205-pound Brickus the No. 19 point guard and No. 116 overall prospect in the portal at this time.

“I want to play for a team that can get to the NCAA Tournament,” Brickus told On3 last month. “So I’m looking for what the team will have with me. I want to win. Player development will be big for me too.”

South Carolina landed Palmetto State native and former Missouri big-man Jordan Butler out of the portal on Sunday and they’d still like to add a guard and a big to this cycle, with a solid chance that Brickus is one of those.

Alabama transfer portal big-man Nick Pringle remains the prospect we’re focused on tracking at this time, though it’s still not clear which schools he will visit.

Tulane transfer guard Kolby King is also scheduled to visit South Carolina this weekend, according to Jamie Shaw.
