The Chuckys: Ole Miss offense upends LSU 55-49 in a thriller

The Chucky Awards will be a weekly offering of the obvious, the obscure, the expected, the unexpected, the serious and the silly. These are for the Ole Miss win over LSU in The Vaught.

Play of the Game

Too many to pick one, but Jaxson Dart, Quinshon Judkins, Ulysses Bentley, Tre Harris, Jordan Watkins, Dayton Wade, Caden Prieskorn, and the offensive line all had “plays of the game” in this epic offensive battle.

Best Ole Miss Backup Role

No Doubt. Ulysses Bentley IV, gave the Rebels a 1-2 punch in a rejuvenated run game including a long TD run in the first half that gave the Rebels a big spark. He rushed 9 times for 90 yards. Great effort!

Least Expected

The Rebl defense didn’t have many answers for Jayden Daniels and the LSU offense. In the second half, the Tigers took a page out of ‘Bama’s book and ran right at the Rebels – effectively. They gained 637 yards, almost enough for two games, but they did get the final stop to seal the game and that was huge.

Offensive Ole Miss POW (Player of the Week)

Dart was heroic, once again. He had all his weapons at his disposal for the first time all year and he used them all. He never flinched and was cool and collected the whole night. The Rebs had 706 yards of total offense and Dart accounted for 439 of it.

Defensive Ole Miss POW

No idea. Who was the leading tackler? I guess that’s who you’d have to pick, but there probably wasn’t a defensive player of the game in reality. Safety Daijahn Anthony had a big hit that led to a turnover early in the game and Khari Coleman and Ashanti Cistrunk both had sacks, but giving up that many points is hard to give a defensive belt to. S John Saunders, Jr, was the leading tackler with 8.

Quote of the Day

“I will have the smell of corndogs in my nostrils until the pigs come to town.” – Ole Miss fan.

Honorable Mention

Quinshon Judkins ran like his hair was on fire and had his best day of the young season. The real Judkins stood up and delivered. . . . The maligned offensive line opened run lanes, protected Dart and allowed the Rebel offense to operate effectively. Credit when credit is due. . . . Also, the offensive gameplan was very, very good. Lots of different passing routes, lots of different run plays, lots of creativity and the best tempo of the year. . . . The fans – on the last LSU drive, the Tigers had the ball on the Rebel 16 with 12 seconds to go. They had two false starts that put them at the 26 and here’s a guarantee those were caused by the Rebel fans and their rowdiness.
