The Chuckys: Ole Miss finally blew open a tight game against Georgia Tech
The Chucky Awards will be a weekly offering of the obvious, the obscure, the expected, the unexpected, the serious and the silly. These are for the Ole Miss win over Georgia Tech in The Vaught.
Play of the Game
We’re always going to be partial to special teams plays if given the opportunity. Early in the game, a Georgia Tech field goal attempt was blocked by DT Zxavian Harris and was recoverd in Tech territory by S Daijahn Anthony. That play led to the Rebs’ first TD of the game.
Best Backup Role
This is a no-doubter. Backup Ole Miss DT Akelo Stone had his name called more than any backup on defense, but there was another backup who came to life as well on the offensive side of the ball – RB Ulysses Bentley IV. He finally got a chance to show his speed and took advantage of it.
Least Expected
Georgia Tech was able to move the football more effectively than believed pregame and, more surprisingly, the visitors were able to run the ball better than anticipated. Tech had balance as well, rushing for 100 yards and passing for 106 at intermission. Thankfully, the Rebels seemed to get a lot of that remedied at halftime with the defense getting two quick stops to open the third quarter and turning those into two touchdowns to widen the margin to 24-3.

Offensive POW (Player of the Week)
Jaxson Dart. All he did was throw for 251 yards and rush for 136 more including a 67-yarder. Kid’s a player and a major reason Ole Miss is 3-0 at this juncture. All he needs is for some players to heal up and to get a little more help.
Defensive POW
Safety Trey Washington with 10 tackles, two behind the line of scrimmage, had a very good game. So did LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste with 8 stops, but Washington gets the nod this week.
Quote of the Day
“Ole Miss has a kickoff guy who can kick it through the goalposts and we kick a pooch kickoff that goes out of bounds and gives them the ball at the 35. Dumb.” – Press Box chatter.
“What is a chain malfunction and why have there been three of them?”- More press box talk.
Honorable Mention
HM play of the game –With the score 10-0 Ole Miss, the Rebs made a goal line stand holding Tech on downs with the capper being a PBU by S Daijahn Anthony. LB Ashanti Cistrunk had two tackles in the stand as well……WRs Jordan Watkins and Dayton Wade are about as reliable as it gets. Thank goodness they are healthy. Where would the Rebs be without them?
