The Bengal Tiger Tidbits: The scoop on LSU’s 5-star CB targets
LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond spent 10 seasons coaching up defensive backs in Baton Rouge, and after two seasons at Florida, the former LSU player and Louisiana native is back home in Louisiana.
With Raymond taking over as LSU’s secondary coach and tasked with rebuilding the cornerback room through high school recruiting, where do things stand for the Tigers with top targets in the current 2025 class?
LSU has four-star Jaboree Antoine (New Iberia, La.) committed, and the Westgate High star checks in as a Top 10 cornerback on the On3 Industry Rankings.
Here’s the latest buzz around two notable 5-star prospects that sit atop Raymond’s wish list – and are set to spend plenty of time together during the most important juncture of their recruitments.
LSU in good shape with two 5-star cornerback targets
LSU is firmly in the mix for a pair of 5-star cornerbacks in Florida’s DJ Pickett and the Lone Star State’s Dorian Brew, and both have visited campus this spring to meet with Raymond and the staff.
After a trio of unofficial visits since late-January, Pickett has an official visit to LSU scheduled for May 31. Pickett will then visit Georgia on June 7, Miami on June 14 and Oregon on June 21. Florida State is attempting to get into the mix with a visit, Pickett’s father told On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
Raymond has been in touch with Pickett daily, and the same goes for Brew, sources tell The Bengal Tiger staff. At this stage, Pickett (On3’s No. 1 cornerback) and Brew (On3’s No. 4 cornerback) are LSU’s top-ranked targets who remain uncommitted.
Do the Tigers hold the lead for both? One source close to the recruitments of both prospects felt LSU is the team out front for the 5-stars, but acknowledged there’s a battle ahead for both.
With Pickett, the main competition is considered an in-state program in Miami. For Brew, Ohio State has been pegged by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) as the team out front, but more than one source feels the early lead by the Buckeyes isn’t what it once was. Brew’s mother ran track for the Buckeyes, while his father, Derrick Brew, ran track at LSU. Raymond’s relationship with Brew as a pair of former LSU student-athletes has benefitted the Tigers here, and sources feel LSU is in a good position for the Texas four-star headed into an official visit stretch.
Now, Raymond will look to make his pitch to the pair of 5-star recruits by scheduling their official visits for the same weekend.
Pickett and Brew are scheduled to attend the On3 Elite Series in Nashville at the end of May, then both fly to Baton Rouge to begin their LSU official visits on May 31.
Following his return visit to LSU, Pickett is scheduled to make official visits to Georgia on June 7, Miami on June 14 and Oregon on June 21. Florida State is attempting to get into the mix with a visit, Pickett’s father told On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
Beyond Brew’s LSU official visit on May 31, he will also make official visits to Georgia (June 7), Miami (June 14) and Oregon (June 21).
That puts LSU’s top cornerback targets together for nearly a month straight given they are set to attend On3’s NIL Elite Series followed by four official visits that are set to the same schools for the same dates.
While Pickett and Brew are not considered a package deal, the groundwork laid by LSU for Pickett and Brew could pay off in a big way as the two navigate the next two months of their recruiting process. Stay tuned. The Tigers could be inching closer to landing a pair of America’s best cornerbacks as the rebuild of the room begins for Raymond during his first offseason on Brian Kelly’s staff.
