The 5-star recruiting report

There are 32 prospects in the 2025 class that have 5-star status in the On3 Industry Rankings and the Florida Gators are involved with several of them. Every few weeks, we’ll provide intel on where Billy Napier’s program sits with each of these elite targets.

-No. 7 overall — DJ Pickett, CB, Zephyrhills (Fla.): Pickett committed to LSU over Miami and Oregon on July 17. With Florida not among his top three, that wouldn’t seem to bode well for a potential Gators flip. But according to sources, there is a belief in Gainesville that if Florida plays well this season (let’s say eight or more wins) Pickett possibly could be in play as signing day approaches. He seems to be solid to LSU at the moment but plans to be at The Swamp on Saturday for the Florida-Miami game. A win in that game is greatly needed for the Gators. It might give them a shot in the arm in this recruitment.

-No. 12 overall — Michael Fasusi, OT, Lewisville (Texas): Fasusi committed to Oklahoma on Aug. 21 but it’s likely the Gators will continue their pursuit of him. He visited the Gators in late July and said that trip went well. At that time, Fasusi also said he planned to watch the Gators closely this fall and it’s possible he could return to Gainesville for a game down the road.

–No. 15 overall — Solomon Thomas, IOL, Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines: The Florida State commit officially visited the Gators on June 7-9. LSU and FSU also hosted him on officials. Right now, it seems as though LSU is the ‘Noles’ biggest threat while Florida appears to have fallen off some since June. However, Thomas told Gators Online recently that any report saying he wouldn’t visit Florida again wasn’t accurate. Could improved play by the Gators coupled with a better season from the Florida offensive line get his attention?

-No. 27 overall — Dallas Wilson, WR, Tampa Bay Tech (Fla.): The Oregon commit told Gators Online earlier this month that Florida and UCF were the schools trying hardest to flip him. Now, he plans to attend the Florida-Miami game on Saturday. Additionally, he told On3’s Chad Simmons the Gators are likely to get an official visit. He was supposed to official to Gainesville in June but tripped to Miami instead. Wilson has positive things to say about Florida and receivers coach Billy Gonzales. A lot might hinge on Florida’s success this season and how the passing game looks. Today, Wilson seems fairly solid to the Ducks. But the Gators have a chance to get his attention Saturday.

****OF NOTE: Although receiver Vernell Brown III, the Gators commit from Orlando (Fla.) Jones, is not a 5-star in the On3 Industry Rankings, he is only four spots away from earning that distinction. With the slightest move forward from On3, 247Sports, Rivals or ESPN, he could join the 5-star group.
