The 3-2-1: 3 pieces of intel, 2 strengths, 1 area for improvement with Auburn TE target Amir Jackson
Welcome to the recruiting edition of the 3-2-1. In this style, Auburn Live will combine intel and analysis on some of Auburn’s biggest targets.
There will be three pieces of intel or information on that player’s recruitment, two areas in which that recruit excels on the field and on film, and one area in which that recruit can improve his game.
Amir Jackson, a 4-star tight end from Portal (Ga.), last visited Auburn for its A-Day game. He will now be back at Auburn at least two more times before ultimately making a decision. With one tight end in the boat, the Auburn staff have started to hone in on Jackson as the receiving type tight end for the class.
Here is the latest intel around Jackson and Auburn.
Three pieces of intel
I had originally reported that Jackson would officially visit Auburn on July 29. Jackson told On3’s Keith Niebuhr that was his official visit date. He actually will unofficially visit on that date for Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend, and then officially visit later in the year.
How much of a factor is Auburn for Jackson? According to the intel, Jackson is heavily eyeing Auburn along with Florida, Georgia and probably Alabama and Miami as well. The Tigers have gotten good vibes with the way things have gone since Jackson’s A-Day visit.
The staff, notably Ben Aigamaua, has really hit it off with Jackson. There is a noted angle of faith and the sharing of Christianity between Aigamaua, the rest of the staff, and Jackson and his family. Much like with Auburn quarterback commit Walker White, this seems to be a major factor with Jackson. “He (Aigamaua) was real with it,” Jackson said to Niebuhr. “They’re (Auburn) more on the God side though which I’ll praise highly of. He basically just touches base everyday too.”
Two strengths
Jackson is the definition of a jumbo receiver. He often lines up in the slot and runs routes pretty well for a guy with his length. Much like Rivaldo Fairweather for Auburn, Jackson can be the hybrid player that lines up all over and runs pretty good routes.
High-pointing the football and then making plays in open field are strong for Jackson. He can run after the catch, but can also go up and over defenders for players. He is a versatile receiving option.
One area for improvement
Upper body strength has been an issue for Jackson and as a result slows him as a blocking tight end. The good news is he shouldn’t be doing that much. Still, in the NFL, tight ends tend to be more complete. It’s a part of his game he will want to bring along.
