The 3-2-1: 3 pieces of intel, 2 strengths, 1 area for improvement with Auburn DL target Malik Blocton

Welcome to the recruiting edition of the 3-2-1. In this style, Auburn Live will combine intel and analysis on some of Auburn’s biggest targets.

There will be three pieces of intel or information on that player’s recruitment, two areas in which that recruit excels on the field and on film, and one area in which that recruit can improve his game.

Malik Blocton, a 3-star defensive lineman from Pike Road (Ala.), has been an Auburn target for quite some time. He’s been a target for many schools that goes back to ninth grade. He has even more familiarity with certain Auburn coaches because of it.

Here is the latest intel regarding Blocton and Auburn.

Three pieces of intel

I put in a prediction Wednesday for Auburn to eventually land Blocton. I feel good about that prediction. Why could that happen sooner than all the way to the end? Florida, Texas, LSU, Clemson and other programs want him. If that is the case, Auburn may want to try and close the deal before those schools are able to steal his attention away.

Auburn is a top school, but Florida and Texas are standing out as well according to Blocton. He will take official visits to those two schools and Auburn. He might take more, but those are the main ones he wants to schedule. Blocton will be back at Auburn for camp on June 15.

Auburn defensive lineman Marcus Harris is Blocton’s older brother. Harris wants his brother to choose the school he is most comfortable with. If that means Auburn, then he will be good with it. Harris encourages his brother to do his due diligence, however. Besides Harris being there, Blocton simply feels at home at Auburn. Also, Blocton and Harris are ecstatic about the hire made by Auburn. Both were recruited by Hugh Freeze and Jeremy Garrett before they were at Auburn.

Two strengths

Blocton plats with a good motor, he overpowers blocks and makes plays after that. He is probably more suited to slide inside and take up blocks as a 3 or 4i-technique player.

Blocton plays with good hands and sometimes wins by creating separation. He has nice length and a powerful lower body to win with leverage.

One area for improvement

Getting off of blocks will be the challenge for Blocton on the next level. As of right now, he’s very good at the beginning of the play. He strikes with his hands and usually has a good get-off but sometimes struggles to shed the block. He can absolutely improve that on the next level.
