Texas WR Taz Williams interested in learning about Gamecocks

South Carolina Gamecocks offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains recently offered a standout 2025 wide receiver from the state of Texas.

Taz Williams out of Red Oak High took some time out of his schedule over the weekend to chat with GamecockCentral.com.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder broke down how he first learned that USC was reaching into the Lone Star State to offer him.

“When I first got it, I was in school. Coach (Margin) Hooks, my receiver trainer, sent me his (Loggains’) number. We talked a little bit,” said Williams. “Talked about school and everything that was going on with my recruitment.”

From there, Loggains did a bit more research, speaking with Red Oak head coach Melvin Robinson prior to making things official.

“He got my head coach’s number, talked to my head coach about me, then after school, he offered me,” Williams recalled.

The On3 Industry Ranking – a weighted average factoring in all four major recruiting services – rates Williams as a four-star prospect and as the number 269 overall player in the 2025 class. He is additionally ranked as the nation’s 43rd-best pass-catcher and as the number 46 prospect in the state of Texas.

Williams admits that he still has much to learn about Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks program, but did note that he’s eager to see more.

“I’m still interested to learn a whole bunch about them,” he said.

There are a couple of visits around the corner for the Texas junior.

“I know I’ve got Nebraska and Kansas State. Nebraska for sure, and Kansas State, I’m still trying to set that up.”

Williams also liked what he heard during his conversation with Loggains, who is going into his first season as the Gamecocks’ play-caller after a stint at Arkansas.

“He’s a real cool dude, being able to talk to the OC meant a lot, just knowing that I’m big (for them),” Williams said.

The current leader for Williams according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) is TCU, which carries just over a 20 percent chance of landing him. TCU is followed in the metric by Texas and SMU.

There are a few factors that Williams will heavily consider as he navigates the recruiting process.

“I’m big on relationships, so definitely that. Academics, being able to come in as a freshman and be able to compete for a starting spot.”

Last season, Williams racked up 580 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns.
