Because the Longhorns are currently in first place in the SEC, they were listed as the No. 2 seed in the projected 12-team playoff bracket despite being ranked behind No. 2 Ohio State.

Only conference champions can occupy top-four seeds, so the Buckeyes were bumped back to the No. 5 seed despite being ranked No. 2 as a result of being behind fellow Big 10 team No. 1 Oregon in the rankings.

The Longhorns were joined by a number of SEC teams in the rankings, including No. 23 Missouri, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 10 Georgia, No. 9 Ole Miss, and No. 7 Alabama.

Texas hosts Kentucky this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised by ABC.
