Texas Longhorns one of five finalists for Harlem Berry

The nations top ranked running back in the 2025 class is down to five schools, and the Texas Longhorns made the cut.

New Orleans (La.) St. Martin’s Episcopal’s Harlem Berry trimmed his list to five schools Friday night prior to taking in the Red River Showdown today.

Berry attended the Texas Elite Camp June 3, the same day 2025 quarterback K.J. Lacey committed to Steve Sarkisian and staff. Lacey and Berry have remained in contact since June 3.

Since that time, the Longhorns relationship has only strengthened with the quick, speedy and elusive playmaker. Running backs coach Tashard Choice is once again center stage for one of the nation’s elite backs. Choice is expected to stop by St. Martin’s Episcopal next week during the Longhorns bye week.

Inside Texas made a visit to St. Martin’s Episcopal in August, and the key takeaway at the time was the Longhorns were running third behind long time favorite LSU and Florida. The Gators have a family tie with running backs coach Jabbar Jaluke being related to Berry on his dad’s side of the family.

Breaking down the finalists

Berry quickly broke down what stands out about each of his top schools with On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

LSU Tigers: It feels like home and the energy is just different up there.

Texas Longhorns: It was a great experience and great vibe.

USC Trojans: I haven’t been up there yet but the coaches are great.

Oklahoma Sooners: Coach Demarco (Murray) is a great guy and I get a great feel from them.

Florida Gators: The swamp gives off great energy and is amazing.

Berry is the No. 19 ranked prospect overall in the 2025 cycle. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder checks in as the No. 1 ranked running back in the cycle, and the No. 1 ranked prospect in the Pelican State.
