Texas Longhorns Monday Recruiting Intel
Inside Texas looks at the latest from a handful of UT’s top targets in Kobe Black, Alex January, Jordon Johnson-Rubell, and 2026 east Texas offensive lineman Eric Perkins in Monday’s intel.
Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally
The state’s top-rated cornerback received a visit from Terry Joseph at Connally last week, among other coaches and programs. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound On3 Industry Ranking five-star made recent stops at Alabama and LSU, and was blown away.
But after speaking with sources, it appears Texas is still the leader for Black’s services. Steve Sarkisian and Joseph have been tremendous in this recruitment, plus Black like the idea of early playing time. With Ryan Watts being a potential draft prospect in 2024, Black sees an opening for opportunity.
Black is starting to line up where he wants to take his official visits, with Texas assuredly getting a trip. These will likely take place in June. Texas just needs to stay the course.
Alex January, DL, Duncanville (Texas)
After taking unofficial trips over the last four months, Team January is narrowing down the list and setting up official visits this week.
Oklahoma, Florida State, and LSU received visits recently, in addition to returning to Texas for its Orange-White scrimmage two weeks ago.
January is set to take an official to Austin on June 23-25, and that remains his only official trip locked in. You can expect OU, FSU, Miami, and Georgia to potentially get official visits, and this week is when January and his family will narrow it down.
After June officials, don’t be surprised if January makes his decision in July. The Texas legacy has seen Austin more times then he can remember as the Horns continue to lead the pack.
Jordon Johnson-Rubell, S, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy via Fort Worth (Texas)
Texas and the On3 Industry Ranking four-star continue to get closer during Johnson-Rubell’s recruitment. The Horns are in a fantastic position with the 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back from Texas.
UT, Ohio State, Alabama, USC, and Michigan are the schools standing out today, with the Longhorns in prime position. He’s continuing to build a great relationship with Blake Gideon, Pete Kwaitkowski, and Steve Sarkisian, and could see some official visits locked in soon.
He’s coming off an unofficial to Colorado where the Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes made an impression.
He earned Texas 3-5A-I honors after notching 60 tackles and six pass breakups in 2021, then transferred to the IMG Academy in Brandenton (Fla.). After his junior season at IMG, Johnson-Rubell was named a MaxPreps Junior All-American in 2022.
Eric Perkins, OL, Marshall (Texas) – 2026
Next up in the east Texas region is the 6-foot-5, 300-pound sophomore-to-be Eric Perkins. Perkins was invited to Austin for the Texas Takeover, a recruiting event scheduled for June 3rd.
Perkins holds a UTSA offer, plus more visits on the docket. He’s set to see Oklahoma, TCU, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, SMU, and Texas Tech this summer, in addition to UT. Arizona State, North Texas, and Texas A&M have also been in contact.
Perkins just turned 15 years old in February, so you can see the moldable clay in the budding prospect.
