Texas Hoops Recruiting: Top targets lock in official visits

Rodney Terry and staff have locked in a number official visits with top targets in the 2024 cycle. The news of a number of official visits locked in comes on the heels of the news that On3 Industry Ranking 4-star guard Cam Scott is announcing his decision August 11.

Inside Texas takes a look at where Texas stands with the top 2024 prospects on the board with the visit schedule almost set.

Tre Johnson, SG, Richardson (Texas) Link Academy

Tre Johnson remains expected to make an official visit to Texas prior to making a decision. The date for the Texas visit is expected to be released soon. Johnson already has a date locked in with Alabama for September 15-17. Kentucky, Texas and Baylor are receiving the most chatter ahead of another round of visits. It’s not a lock the No. 3 ranked prospect in the 2024 cycle will play in college.

Johnson’s official visits so far have been Kentucky (January 27-28), Kansas May 5-6, Baylor October 1-2, 2022 and Texas September 17-18, 2022.

Cam Scott, SG, Lexington (S.C.) High

Texas continues to be a front runner in the recruitment of the No. 24 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking ahead of his August 11 announcement. Through the coaching change, Texas and the 6-foot-5 guard have stayed in constant communication.

Alabama is considered the biggest threat to Texas, with Ole Miss and Oregon also swinging away.

Nic Codie, F, Carrollton (Texas) Newman Smith

The son of former Baylor and NFL safety Nakia Codie made an unofficial visit to Texas in June, and was offered by the Longhorns. The 6-foot-8 skilled forward will make an official visit to Texas September 16-18.

The Houston Cougars are mentioned the most right now with Texas, TCU, Auburn, Miami, LSU and Virginia Tech among the finalists. Codie will officially visit LSU September 22-24 and Auburn October 20-22. He already made summer official visits to Houston and TCU.

Curtis Givens, PG, Montverde (Fla.) Academy via Memphis (Tenn.)

The No. 50 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking is expected to make an official visit to Texas September 2-4. Georgia Tech, Memphis and LSU are considered legit possibilities for the 6-foot-2 point guard with Damon Stoudamire and Penny Hardaway being very attractive to develop under.

Givens made June official visits to Georgia Tech and LSU.

Asa Newell, PF, Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) Montverde Academy

The Longhorns will host the 5-star and No. 9 prospect in the 2024 cycle September 8-10 for an official visit. The 6-foot-9 skilled power forward in on an official visit to Gonzaga currently, and will visit Alabama August 1-3. Indiana and Georgia also remain in the mix. The NBA G-league Ignite is also on the table. Newell’s older brother Jaden Newell is a walk-on at Georgia.

Josiah Moseley, F, Round Rock (Texas) Stony Point

The 6-foot-6 skilled and physical forward made an unofficial visit to Texas June 18, and the Longhorns offered June 24.

Moseley and Texas are in constant communication, and is expected back on campus in September.

Robert Miller III, PF, Pasadena (Texas) Memorial

The 6-foot-9 highly skilled power forward is scheduled to visit Texas September 29-30. Miller will make an official visit to Alabama September 22-23. The Houston area prospect has been on campus in Austin a handful of times in the last year, including in June. Miller made a spring official visit to Colorado.

Miller’s father played football at LSU.

Liam McNeeley, SF, Montverde (Fla.) Academy via Richardson (Texas)

The 6-foot-7 wing remains a possibility to make a fall official visit to Texas prior to making a decision. Members of the Texas staff watched the DFW area native throughout the summer. Indiana remains all in on McNeeley. There is a chance McNeeley could make a fall official visit to Texas, after making an official visit in April.
