Texas commits KJ Lacey, Dia Bell put together strong week one performances
Last night, high school football’s week one kicked off around the country and a pair of Texas commits were able to showcase their talents. 2025 Saraland (Ala.) QB KJ Lacey and 2026 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage QB Dia Bell showed traits and abilities that indicated why Steve Sarkisian chose them to be his signal callers of the future.

Let’s start with Lacey.
As you can see, Lacey is able to avoid the rush, not panic, and get outside the pocket while looking downfield to deliver an accurate throw for a touchdown. His ability to extend plays and improvise makes him very dangerous from outside the pocket.
When throwing from the pocket, Lacey looks very comfortable and poised. He’s also able to avoid the rush and maneuver inside the pocket to deliver the football. You can tell he has complete control of the offense.
Lacey passed for 317 yards and four touchdowns in a win over one of the top teams in Alabama. Ryan Williams isn’t on his team anymore, so Lacey is proving that any doubt in his ability to excel without a five-star receiver probably does not have much merit.
Over in Georgia, Bell showed on national TV why he one is one of the top QBs in the nation in his class.
In both clips, you can see Bell avoid the rush. He steps up and delivers to a receiver in one, and then the other clip shows off his athleticism with the ability to takeoff and run. Though American Heritage fell to Milton on ESPN, Bell put on a strong performance.

Both guys have a lot in common. They’re very poised in the pocket and have complete control of their offense. The pair of QBs both have the ability to get outside of the pocket and extend plays while delivering an accurate pass downfield. The most wonderful thing they have in common is they’re both committed to Texas.
