Texas A&M QB commit Husan Longstreet has great spring game visit in College Station
Corona (Calif.) Centennial On300 quarterback and Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet was back in College Station over the weekend for the spring game. It was his first time visiting since giving head coach Mike Elko and his staff a verbal on April 14.
This was Longstreet’s third time on campus this calendar year. He continues to build a rapport with future offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Collin Klein.
“It was great got to get around the team a little bit,” Longstreet said. “They really like how Coach Elko runs the program. What excites me is how much the players are buying into what Coach (Collin) Klein and Coach Elko are teaching.”
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Longstreet is one of the jewels of a Texas A&M class currently ranked No. 13 nationally by On3. He put on his recruitment cap this weekend and connected with guys like five-star receiver Kaliq Lockett.
“Kaliq was a cool guy,” Longstreet said. “The short time being around him was fun and hopefully we can get him locked in. Coach Elko and Coach Klein have high hopes for this program and I think guys like Kaliq can play a big part in it.”
The On3 Industry ranks Longstreet as the nation’s No. 6 quarterback and No. 44 prospect overall. He chose to play for the Aggies over his other finalists in Auburn, Ole Miss and Oregon and gave On3 insight on why he committed to Texas A&M right after his announcement.
“It’s the coaching staff,” Longstreet said. “Coach Klein and Coach Elko they really see the future and what they can do. I went up to their practice (in March) and just their intensity. They can really take the program and do something that hasn’t been done in history and I wanted to be part of that.”
As a junior Longstreet completed nearly 67 percent of his passes for 3,013 yards and 24 touchdowns with another 645 yards rushing and seven more scores.
