Terquavion Smith to reportedly sign with Philadelphia 76ers on two-way contract

The Philadelphia 76ers will reportedly sign former NC State men’s basketball star guard Terquavion Smith on a two-way deal following the conclusion of Thursday’s NBA Draft, per Shams Charania.

Throughout two seasons with NC State, he provided an electric presence in the program’s backcourt. Smith averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore, earning All-ACC second team honors. His assist average nearly doubled in his second year with the Pack.

During the 2022-2023 season, he shot 38 percent from the field, 33.6 percent from deep and 70.1 percent from the line. The 6-4, 165-pound sophomore started all 34 games for the Pack and also led the program in total assists with 140 and steals with 49.

He set the record for the most threes by an NC State men’s basketball freshman the year prior with 96, which also ranked fourth in ACC history, per GoPack.com.

Overall, he scored 16.3 points per game, grabbed 4.1 rebounds and recorded 1.3 steals per game. Smith knocked down 36.9 percent of his threes that year.

Following his final game with the Wolfpack, which was also the guard’s NCAA Tournament debut vs. Creighton, he reflected on his career with the program. He finished that loss to the Blue Jays 3 points shy of a career-high with 32.

“I’m just blessed and glad that I got to play with the group of guys I got to play with,” Smith said. “And I’m glad I got the coaches I have and I’ve got the staff that I have, and I’m glad I chose NC State.”

When he signs his first contract, the guard will officially become the seventh active former Wolfpack star in the NBA. Last year, Dereon Seabron, Smith’s former teammate, signed a two-way deal as an undrafted free agent with New Orleans. He appeared in 5 games with the Pelicans last season. Dennis Smith Jr. is the most recent member of the Pack to hear his name called on draft night when the Mavericks selected him in 2017.

Terquavion Smith was an elite four-star recruit coming out of Greenville (NC) Farmville Central High, ranking as the No. 91 overall prospect in the 2021 class, the No. 21 shooting guard and the No. 4 recruit in North Carolina.

The 76ers also agreed to two-way deals with former Arkansas guard Ricky Council IV and former Arizona forward Azuolas Tubelis.
