Tennessee made a good move with talented four-star tailback Daniel Hill on Saturday at the annual Memorial Day ‘865 Live’ recruiting event on campus.
The 2024 prospect took in campus for the first time outside of a traditional gameday visit. It was successful as the running back pans to be back for an official visit sometime in June.
“I had a good time overall. I talked to a lot of coaches and talked to coach [Josh] Heupel. We played a lot of games and had a good time overall,” Hill told Volquest. “I’d say they will probably get an official visit. Right now, I’d say they are probably top-three.”
The other two programs in the running are Alabama and South Carolina. The tailback likes all three schools and their pursuit of him.
“Just the feeling I have for the schools,” Hill said of hit top-three. “I’ve been to all three schools a good amount of time. I love all three schools in different ways.”
Wherever he attends school, he will be used in different ways as the athlete can line up all over the field.
“I feel like as an overall player, I’m different from everyone else in the country,” the prospect said. “Just off my skillset, I can play running back, but I can also play wide receiver too. That’s a plus.
“They have been showing me different ways they can use me in the scheme. Spreading me out and getting me the ball in many different ways. Stuff like that.”
If Tennessee is going to be the last team standing, position coach Jerry Mack will be a major reason why.
“We’ve had a good relationship ever since they’ve offered me,” Hill said of Mack. “Ever since then, we’ve been building a relationship by talking pretty much every other day on the phone. We have been getting to know each other more and more.”
Tennessee picked up the commitment form fellow four-star running back Peyton Lewis on Saturday. Hill hadn’t had a chance to speak with Lewis at the time of the interview, but that would change quickly.
“I’ll probably text him on the way home and see what made him commit to Tennessee,” Hill said of Lewis. “We’ll see where it goes from there.”
Hill stands in at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. The Meridian, Miss. native is considered a four-star athlete by the On3 Industry Rankings as the 194th-overall prospect, sixth athlete and seventh player out of Mississippi. He plans to make a summer decision.
