Tennessee hosts 2025 point guard Jeremiah Fears on official visit

Tennessee hosts 2025 point guard Jeremiah Fears on official visit

Tennessee and Rick Barnes are already putting in early work on the 2025 recruiting class. To that end the Vols hosted point guard Jeremiah Fears on an official visit this past weekend.

Fears, is a native of Joliet, Ill., is a consensus top-50 player in the 2025 class. On3 rates him as the No. 31 overall prospect in the current junior class and the No. 5 point guard.

This was Fears’ first trip to Knoxville, and he was joined by his parents on the visit.

“Tennessee really impressed me. I feel like it was a great experience and I’m just going to keep dealing with everybody here,” Fears said.

“The campus was amazing. The basketball team, I feel like they’re going to be really good this year. The coaching staff is just so genuine and nice.”

Pretty much everyone in Big Ten country is trying to keep Fears in the Midwest.

He’s taken visits to Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Oregon in addition to Tennessee.

Fears can’t sign with a program until November of 2024, but he already has some firm ideas about what he’s looking for when as he goes about visiting prospective suitors.

“I think the most important thing I’m looking for is just the coach’s relationship that he has with his players. Playing style is important to me of course, and who produces the most pros out of the schools,” Fears said.

“(At Tennessee) I wanted to learn about the playing style and how they let their guards play. I think they did a good job of showing me how they play and how they want their guards to play.”

The visit also gave Fears a chance to spend ample one-on-one time with Rick Barnes. It was his most extensive exposure to the Vols’ veteran head coach, and Fears is well aware of Barnes’ track record of sending players on to the professional ranks.

“It was different, just being around somebody that’s produced so many NBA players,” Fears said of spending time with Barnes. That’s been around some of the greats like Kevin Durant, Lamarcus Aldridge and guys like that. Just being around him was a great experience. My parents had a great experience as well.

“I think he does a very good job of helping to get point guards to the league. I’m looking forward to staying in touch with Tennessee and paying attention to the program.”

While Fears has tons of time before he needs to make a decision he indicated that there’s a chance he could make a verbal commitment in January.
