Tennessee Basketball schedules official visit with transfer portal target

Tennessee basketball will have a second visitor this weekend, with Northern Colorado’s Dalton Knecht scheduled to arrive in Knoxville for a visit beginning Friday. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Knecht will be visiting the Vols alongside Harvard forward Chris Ledlum.

Knecht is a senior at Northern Colorado this season, averaged 20.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 35.3 minutes per game in 32 games, shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from the 3-point line. The Thornton, Colorado, native, has visited Oregon and also has Washington, Gonzaga and Arkansas involved in his recruitment.

He averaged 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 29.4 minutes per game over two seasons at Northern Colorado, after transferring from Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. 

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Ledlum, a Brooklyn, N.Y., native, averaged 18.8 points and 8.5 rebounds in 28 games this season at Harvard. Ledlum is also being recruited by Indiana, Michigan State and St. John’s, among others. He was an All-Ivy League selection this season, shooting 47.3 percent from the field.

Ledlum visited Indiana last week and will visit St. John’s on Sunday.

Tennessee was in Boston to see Ledlum on March 24 Ledlum averaged 16.7 points and 9.3 rebounds during a breakout sophomore season in 2021-22. He started 27 times in 28 games this season, averaging 31.5 minutes per game. 

Ledlum scored in double-figures 26 times this season and had nine double-doubles. He had a season-high 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a win at Cornell in February. 

In 70 games over the last three seasons at Harvard, Ledlum averaged 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.5 assists in 24.8 minutes per game, making 41 starts.

Rick Barnes and his Tennessee coaching staff are still waiting on decisions regarding next season from senior Santiago Vescovi and Josiah-Jordan James, along with freshman wing Julian Phillips.

Tennessee senior forward Olivier Nkamhoua entered the portal this week, after averaging 10.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists during his up-and-down senior season with the Vols. He’s still likely to turn pro, despite entering the portal.

Freshman guard Freddie Dilione, a former four-star prospect, enrolled early and joined the Tennessee basketball program in January. The Vols will also be welcoming four-star power forward JP Estrella, four-star wing Cameron Carr and three-star forward Cade Phillips.

Estrella was the No. 32 overall player in the On3 recruiting rankings in the 2023 class. Carr finished at No. 48 and Phillips was ranked No. 141. Dilione was ranked No. 44 overall after reclassifying into the 2022 cycle.
