Tennessee basketball schedules official visit with four-star small forward

Tennessee basketball has scheduled an official visit with four-star small forward Chase McCarty, according to On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw. McCarty is set to visit the Vols on August 25.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound McCarty, out of Huntsville, Ala., is the No. 71 overall player in the On3 ratings. He’s ranked No. 23 among small forwards and is the No. 1 overall prospect the state of Alabama.

According to Shaw, McCarty has other visits scheduled at Georgia Tech August 3 and Houston on September 1. In June McCarty took visits to Kansas and Oklahoma.

Tennessee hosted McCarty on unofficial visits in January and last September.

“The way they play stands out to me,” McCarty said of the Vols in May, during an interview with Shaw. “Their guards have a lot of freedom there. Coach (Rick) Barnes is an amazing coach, and his assistant coach GP (Gregg Polinsky) has been great. They have been recruiting me really hard.”

McCarty in the On3 Industry Ranking is the No. 75 overall player in the 2024 class. He’s the No. 27 small forward and the No. 1 player in Alabama.

“I’m a wing, play-maker, shooter, defend one through five; I’m really just a guy who can do it all,” McCarty told On3. “I like to watch a lot of Kevin Durant, how he wiggles off the bounce and how he gets into his shot fluidly. I try to take a lot from him.”

McCarty told Shaw in May that he wanted to commit by the time the high school basketball season starts this fall.

“I’m looking for a family environment, a home feel,” McCarty said. “This decision for me is bigger than basketball, I want to play for someone that I can talk to about anything, no matter what. I’m a big education guy, so they have to offer what I want to major in; biochemistry.”

He’s looking of the right fit on the floor, too.

“I want to play in a system, a style that fits me,” McCarty said. “A coach who plays fast-paced pushes the ball up the floor, gives their guards freedom, and shoots a lot of threes. I also want to go somewhere that preaches defense.”
