TE Michael Burt can see a versatile role in the Nebraska offense

Omaha (Neb.) Creighton Prep tight end Michael Burt picked up four D1 offers in one day just a week ago. Nebraska was one of those four Big Ten schools to offer, and Burt went to see Nebraska this weekend for an official visit. Burt has a lot of family in Lincoln and several cousins that attend Nebraska.

I am honored to have received an offer from the University of Nebraska!!

“My grandpa lives in Lincoln,” Burt said. “I have aunts and uncles that live in Lincoln. My dad and all of his brothers went to Lincoln Pius. My grandma used to live in Lincoln. So we have a lot of ties back to Lincoln. I have two cousins that go to NU including one that is a walk-on for the basketball team.”

One of the most important parts of his trip was understanding what the offense would look like. The Nebraska offensive coordinator ran through it and gave a view of what it will look like.

“I like how coach Satterfield ran their offense,” Burt said. “It’s a newer version of pro-style. I liked to see that. I think that coach Rhule is a great guy and I like a lot of their staff and thing that they’re good people.”

Being an in-state kid there wasn’t a lot that Burt needed to see. He liked getting to see what the new staff is doing, but he was very familiar with everything that he saw this weekend.

“Obviously, I love the stadium and I have been there dozens of times. Every time it takes my breath away. Everyone knows about the academic All-Americans. Everytime I go to a game I see that sign.

“It was great to see what Nebraska is about, in-depth, because of the new staff. But at the same time it was all very familiar. I was raised here in Omaha and I go to games all of the time.”

Nebraska can see versatile role for Michael Burt

Nebraska worked Burt out as an in-line tight end at their camp. On his visit the Nebraska staff shared with Burt that they see a versatile role for him and can see him doing a number of things in their offense.

“We went over that and they gave great examples of other players. They really see me as a guy that can do a little bit of everything in terms of flexing out and staying in-line.

“They want me as a guy that they can trust making a big block or running a good route or hauling in a good catch. When people ask me what I do well my first answer is my versatility and I am glad that Nebraska sees it the same way.”

Burt was hesitant to provide a grade for the visit. He followed that up thought by saying that he saw what he needed to know about the offense and he really liked the sound of it.

“I don’t really know if I want to announce a specific grade,” Burt said. “I really saw what I wanted to see and the ways that they will run their offense and I loved that. That is one of the big things that I wanted to see.”

There may or may not be any more camps or visits for Burt. He says it would be a good idea to talk about things with his family now that he has a few visits under his belt.

“As of now, I don’t have anymore visits, traveling or camps planned,” Burt said. “Obviously there is one more official visit weekend coming up and I don’t really have a plan for that yet. We are going to sit down and talk about it.

“Finally after visiting a couple of places kind of weigh things out and talk about things with my parents. I don’t necessarily know when I will make my decision. When the time is right, I will make it. I hope that it’s well before this season. It could be in a few days or a few weeks.”
