TCU 4-star QB commit Ty Hawkins transferring to IMG Academy
One of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 cycle is making a move to a recognized high school football program ahead of his senior season.
Ty Hawkins, a four-star QB out of San Antonio currently committed to TCU, announced that he is transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Hawkins played the last three seasons at Claudia Taylor Johnson High in San Antonio.
IMG Academy has seen a number of alumni go on to excel at the college and professional ranks. Ahead of the 2023-24 NFL season, 24 former Ascenders were on NFL rosters. IMG set a record at the 2024 NFL Draft with the first-round selections of offensive lineman JC Latham and QB J.J. McCarthy, as per the school’s website, it became the first to have alumni selected in the first round of the NFL Draft for five consecutive years.
In his two seasons under center, Hawkins has thrown for over 4,200 yards, completing 262 passes and hurling 54 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions. The dual-threat signal-caller has also rushed for 24 scores across his 33 career games at CTJ — which finished with a 10-2 record last season.
Hawkins recently competed at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles alongside 19 other top QBs in the 2025 cycle. The 6-foot, 189-pounder caught up with On3’s Chad Simmons ahead of the event in June.
“Since I was a kid, making the Elite 11 Finals has been one of my biggest goals,” Hawkins told On3. “When I got the invite, I was super grateful and glad to join the fraternity of quarterbacks that have gone through the Elite 11 Finals. When I was younger and before I got the invite, I was thinking about the Elite 11 Finals.”
Hawkins is the No. 144 overall prospect and No. 12 QB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks No. 87 overall and No. 9 under center in the 2025 On300.
