Tar Heel State DT Nnamdi Ogboko to officially visit Gators — and says ‘I love the coaches there’

Tar Heel State DT Nnamdi Ogboko to officially visit Gators — and says ‘I love the coaches there’

Why is Florida “high” on the list for defensive lineman Nnamdi Ogboko of South Garner (N.C.)?

“I love the coaches there,” Ogboko told Gators Online. “It’s like a family. I visited there, and all around it was great. And, they’re like No. 5 in academics — something like that. That’s a big thing. I want to get my degree. It’s a great all-around environment.”

Ogboko, who claims a Gators offer, visited Florida this spring. Now, he plans to return.

He will officially visit the Gators on June 16. Rutgers (June 2) and South Carolina (June 9) also will get officials. Additionally, other programs are vying for them, too.

As for a commitment timeline … “I’ll be making my decision the third week of the fall schedule,” Ogboko said.

Ogboko is not yet rated by On3 — or by most other recruiting sites. But his offer list includes several Power 5 programs, including Florida, Georgia, Michigan and others.

The Gators stopped by his school twice this spring.

“It was Coach (Jay) Bateman, the linebackers coach, and then (defensive line coach Sean) Spencer,” Ogboko said. “I have high interest; I feel they’re one of the top seven, or top five on my list right now. I hear from them every day. Coach (Kali James Jr.), the assistant defensive line coach, hits me up every day and asks how I’m doing. And Coach Spencer. They’re great guys. And I like how they develop their players. I’ve bonded with them pretty well.”

Ogboko could play more than one position along the defensive line

Florida envisions Ogboko, who is 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds, as a nose and/or 3-technique defensive lineman.

“I’d fit perfect,” he said. “I feel like I’m athletic enough to play the three and big enough to take on the double team and control the middle.”

Ogboko, who gets straight A’s in class, plans to graduate in December.
