Swamp Secrets: Florida Gators recruiting intel from the trail (7/12)

It has been a jam-packed week here at Gators Online, as recruiting intel continues to pour in. UF is also fresh off a commitment from On300 offensive tackle Fletcher Westphal of Leesburg (Va.) Tuscarora.

And because of that, we wanted to compile the latest news in another recruiting insider.

Here’s the latest intel from the recruiting trail on the Florida Gators …

Today is commitment day for Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz defensive lineman, Kendall Jackson, who would play JACK at UF. As we have been saying for months, it would be a shocker if the hometown product committed elsewhere. Miami and Kentucky are schools that really made a strong impression on official visits, but the Gators have too much going for them here. If Billy Napier’s program wins out later today, Jackson would be the 14th UF commit with at least four stars on their profile. His announcement will be at 4:30 p.m. EST on his IG (@_iamhollywood).

Another scheduled commitment that could very well go in UF’s favor involves Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney cornerback Teddy Foster. We have talked about the 2024 prospect quite a bit in recent months, having submitted On3 RPM picks for the Gators and included him in several articles highlighting possibilities for UF’s next commitment. Florida, Miami and Tennessee are the finalists, and although GO reported that Miami recently made up ground, a source says it would still be a big surprise if UF did not receive the nod on Friday.

We don’t expect Florida to be the choice for highly-regarded EDGE Jordan Ross. Florida, Tennessee and Georgia have been out front for weeks, but GO is told the Gators have since turned their attention elsewhere to fill different needs. The Birmingham, Alabama native is a big-time talent; there is no denying that whatsoever; it’s just UF’s class is expanding extremely fast and Napier’s staff believes there are bigger needs out there.

Oviedo (Fla.) offensive tackle Tye Hylton is coming off the board later this week, and as GO noted a few days ago, Florida State is expected to be the choice. The Gators have four offensive linemen committed and could very well add a fifth one via the transfer portal. There are a few high school targets who are still very much wanted though, with one being Ory Williams. The Gators went in a different direction here; however, FSU was likely going to be the choice regardless.

Last night, GO reported on Gators defensive commits Jamonta Waller and Amaris Williams, providing their projected positions in Gainesville. Waller, a ultra-productive prospect out of Mississippi, is being courted to play a mixture of inside linebacker and JACK. As for Williams, he is strickly an EDGE player in the eyes of the Gators. He is an explosive prospect who I believe is the most overlooked in the class. Click HERE for full analysis .
