Sunshine State schools have impressed 5-star WR Joshisa Trader
Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep five-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader announced a top five of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State and Tennessee on Dec. 25. Even though he is interested in visiting Oregon, Trader is largely focused on his finalists.
The 6-foot-0.5, 175-pound wideout has visited three of them this spring: Florida (March 25), Florida State (March 4) and Miami (April 14). Wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales is Trader’s top contact from the Gators. Additionally, Florida commit and Willis (Texas) four-star quarterback DJ Lagway is talking to him about the program.
“He’s recruiting me,” Trader told Joseph Hastings of BamaInsider. “When I went to the camp, I did the camp with him. He was like, ‘I like how you play. We could do some things at Florida.’”
Part of Gonzales’ message to Trader is that Florida offers him the chance to be surrounded by talented wideouts and coaches. He is also well aware of the Gators’ success at wide receiver.
“They’re always going to have a good receiving corps,” said Trader, the No. 22 overall prospect and No. 6 wide receiver in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. “Regardless of the fact, they’re always going to have good receivers from everywhere.”
Trader, who hopes to make a decision by the end of the season, plans to officially visit all five finalists. Right now, he has not finalized any upcoming official or unofficial visits.
“Relationships,” Trader said about what is most important to him in a school. “If I don’t have a relationship with the coaches, I’m not going to go there.”
Miami and Florida State also have Trader’s attention
Trader’s recent visit to Miami was for the Hurricanes’ spring game. He was there to see if Mario Cristobal‘s program showed improvement from last season.
The five-star left DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. impressed by what he saw.
“You could see it’s a better Air Raid offense,” Trader said. “Everybody was getting the ball. There was a good rotation. Nobody was dropping passes. Everybody was running.”
Meanwhile, Trader enjoyed his trip to Florida State last month. A highlight of the visit was catching up with head coach Mike Norvell.
During his last time in Tallahassee, Norvell told Trader that the Seminoles would win a bowl game. That came true in December when Florida State beat Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl.
“They’re building,” Trader said.
The Seminoles’ recent success is one reason why Trader is considering the Seminoles. Norvell is another.
“He’s a very passionate coach,” Trader said. “He’s never going to let you down.”
