Sunday Buzz: A Kansas State visit that begins on Monday

K-STATE IN-HOME VISIT

We shared on Friday to expect an in-home visit from Kansas State to Max Abmas over the weekend. While I still believe that is going to happen, I do anticipate it happening on Monday. That is when it is permitted.

A recruiting period opens up on April 24 and lasts until April 27. Technically, we are in an evaluation period, as part of a quiet period. The only in-person contact that is allowed between prospects and schools is when they are on campus. That changes on Monday.

K-State head coach Jerome Tang and assistants Jareem Dowling, Ulric Maligi and Rodney Perry were all in Atlanta for the EYBL division of the AAU circuit. They watched and saw many of their targets, including Cooper Flagg, Patrick Ngongba, Meleek Thomas, Jeremiah Green and 2024 commit David Castillo.

Another element to consider is whether or not Tang will be in tow for the in-home visit with Abmas. He was already part of one with the guard, and at least in football, the head coach is only allowed one in-home visit per prospect.

The Kansas State head coach did leave Atlanta on Saturday to return to Manhattan for the Powercat Auction.

At least Maligi and Dowling will still be on hand for more EYBL action in the Georgia city on Sunday before flying to Dallas. Perhaps not coincidentally, that is also when North Texas guard transfer and K-State target Tylor Perry should be arriving back at the same airport after his Ole Miss visit.

A 2025 NAME TO KNOW

While the Kansas State coaches were in Atlanta, KSO was in Omaha for the 3SSB (Adidas) division of the AAU circuit. After a full Saturday of watching K-State targets and speaking with a number of folks, it became clear that the Wildcats have made progress with a 2025 target.

They made a run at a star from Sunrise Christian in the Class of 2023 (Layden Blocker) and appear to be primed to do so again. Guard Mikel Brown is another dynamite playmaker and a point guard that is hearing from the likes of Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor, among many others.

He is playing up a level right now and not blinking an eye. That’s how good he is. As a Class of 2025 prospect, Brown is competing at the 17U platform against mostly 2024 prospects that will soon be high school seniors.

Jerome Tang and K-State are resonating with him early, and the success of Markquis Nowell has played a large part.

PERRY’S KANSAS STATE VISIT

A visit that was scheduled for last week was for Aaron Estrada. The original plans were for him to arrive at Kansas State. That was ahead of his April 29 decision that was expected to be in favor of K-State. But, as we all know, things can change fast in the portal.

Not only was Alabama the choice, he made his decision a week sooner than expected.

Hopefully, that isn’t an omen. We can confirm that the previously mentioned Tylor Perry is set to arrive in The Little Apple late on Monday night for his official visit to Kansas State. For reference, both myself and On3’s Jamie Shaw have logged predictions for the Wildcats.
