Storylines to watch for Miami’s June 14 official visit weekend: How large of a move can Hurricanes make with 5-star Dallas Wilson?

Miami’s third official visit weekend of the summer won’t have the same size visitor list as the first two weekends, but the Hurricanes are still expecting to host five four-star prospects, a pair of five-star recruits and one priority three-star offensive lineman.

Here are three storylines to watch during the Hurricanes’ June 14 visit weekend. Note that while No. 4 overall prospect and Five-Star Plus+ cornerback DJ Pickett will visit this weekend, I believe his recruitment will be much more heavily influenced by Miami’s in-season results rather than one official visit, so I left him out of the storylines list. Miami also hosted four-star receiver Vernell Brown III and five-star wideout Jaime Ffrench Tuesday through Thursday of this past week.

How big of a move can Miami make for 5-star WR Dallas Wilson?

Wilson, the No. 18 overall prospect in the On300 and No. 4 wideout in the cycle, has been committed to Oregon for more than a year. But Miami has made itself a real contender for the blue-chip prospect since the start of the year.

This weekend will mark Wilson’s third trip to campus after visiting once in January and again in April this spring, and while the Ducks are still in the most favorable position, Miami has made slow but steady progress over the last six months. This recruitment likely won’t be won by a single visit weekend and could undoubtedly be influenced by Miami’s in-season results this fall, but receivers coach Kevin Beard and head coach Mario Cristobal can still position themselves to take the next step if all goes well this weekend.

Can Miami shore up positions for 4-star DBs Chris Ewald, Amari Wallace?

I RPM’d Ewald and Wallace to Miami in early March and continue to stand by my predictions. Ewald, a corner, is set to announce a decision June 27, just under a week after his official visit to Georgia, and will choose between the Hurricanes and Bulldogs. Wallace, who is being recruited at nickelback, will take official visits to Miami and Louisville this month before announcing a decision before the start of the fall season but is still considering Alabama and Penn State.

I like Miami’s chances for Ewald and Wallace more than other schools, although as we’ve seen in the past, things can change in the blink of an eye. But if Miami shores up their positions for the two four-star defensive backs, I think they’ll be Hurricanes by the end of the summer.

Will Canes climb back into competitive position for 4-star DT Myron Charles?

It’s no secret Florida State has been the most popular name thrown around for Charles over the last few months, especially after he named them his frontrunner earlier this spring, and the Hurricanes are probably on the outside looking in at the moment. But as we’ve seen before, Cristobal can put himself in position for any recruit with the right official visit experience.

This weekend should be about showing Charles why the Hurricanes still need to be considered and what Miami can do for him. It helps Miami is one of the three major in-state programs and is within driving range of Port Charlotte, but the Canes will still need to roll out the red carpet.
