Stefon Diggs’ agent contradicts coach Sean McDermott’s claim star WR was absent from minicamp

Stefon Diggs’ agent contradicts coach Sean McDermott’s claim star WR was absent from minicamp

Tuesday morning, Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott raised eyebrows when he said he was “very concerned” wide receiver Stefon Diggs was absent from mandatory minicamp. He didn’t participate in OTAs, but it still came as a surprise.

Now, there’s a new twist in the situation.

Diggs’ agent, Adisa Bakari, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter the star wideout is, in fact, in Buffalo for minicamp. He also met with McDermott and Bills general manager Brandon Beane this week. However, Schefter alluded to “some issues” between Diggs and the franchise that might need to be worked out by the time training camp gets underway.

Bakari also reiterated the plan is for Diggs to be there for all of minicamp.

“I just hung up with his agent, Adisa Bakari, who said that Stefon Diggs has been in Buffalo since yesterday morning,” Schefter said on SportsCenter Tuesday afternoon. “He underwent a physical for the minicamp, he was in the facility yesterday. He’s met with the Bills’ head coach, Sean McDermott, and the general manager, Brandon Beane, the past two days. He’s not there right now, but he will be there for ‘the entirety of the minicamp.’ So clearly, while Sean McDermott is very concerned, Stefon Diggs is there.

“And clearly, there also seems to be some issues that the two sides need to discuss further and work out because something is amiss. We do not know exactly what that is just yet other than he was not there today and the head coach is very concerned. So clearly, there’s something going on in this relationship that does not make it right right now. But he is there, and the two sides will have a chance to hash that out at minicamp while Stefon Diggs is in Buffalo to see if they can get this matter settled before training camp begins next month.”

There’s been some speculation about what could be next for Diggs, especially after the Bills’ playoff exit last season. He was seen yelling at quarterback Josh Allen on the sidelines and reportedly cleaned his locker out quickly following the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bills restructured Diggs’ contract in March to help free up some cap space. They did something similar with the contracts for Allen and Von Miller. Diggs’ deal goes through 2027. A year ago, the team and Diggs agreed to a contract extension, which added the four years and $96 million.
