Stats With Matt: FSU boasts one of nation’s top-ranked WR tandems in Wiley, McCutcheon
With the addition of four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon to go with four-star CJ Wiley, Florida State now has one of the country’s top wide receiver duos in the 2025 class.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, both of the Seminole receiver commitments rank among the top 15 receivers nationally.
The only other school that has two receivers committed in the top 15 is Oregon, with Dakorien Moore and Dallas Wilson, both sitting in the top five.
Keep in mind that Warchant’s Michael Langston reported earlier this week that Wilson, a Tampa product, could still take an official visit to Florida State despite saying he has shut things down with Oregon.
McCutcheon and Wiley’s average ranking is 14.5, making them the second highest-ranked duo in the 2025 class, with the Ducks obviously taking the top spot.
Three other schools have two commitments among the top 30 prospects at the receiver position. Those include Oklahoma with Cortez Mills and Elijah Thomas (No. 16 and 17, respectively); Tennessee with Travis Smith and Radarious Jackson (No. 12 and No. 23); and, Missouri with Donovan Olugbode and Jayvan Boggs (No. 13 and 28).
Looking down the road, even with some major dominoes at the position yet to fall, Florida State is trending to finish among the top five receiving duos nationally.
Schools trending to match or jump Florida State in this metric are Ohio State, Texas and Florida.
If Texas is able to land five-stars Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench, and they are the current favorite for both, they will be tied with Oregon at an average ranking of 3.5. And they would be the second team to have two commits ranked inside the top five.
The Gators are currently trending to land legacy Vernell Brown III, who also has said he is strongly considering Florida State. Pairing Brown with four-star Joshua Moore would give Florida’s duo an average ranking of 12, boosting them slightly ahead of the ‘Noles.
Ohio State is looking to add four-star Phillip Bell to its class, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has the Buckeyes with an 84 percent chance to land the blue-chip recruit. Alongside Quincy Porter, Ohio State would move to No. 4 among the leaders, with an average ranking of 14, just barely above FSU.
If all of this plays out as expected, Florida State would find itself with the fifth-best wide receiver duo in the 2025 class at the end of the cycle. This would be the first time the Seminoles have landed that caliber of receivers in the same class since 2015.
Of course, FSU will have to hope that this highly ranked duo fares better than that one did. George Campbell and Da’Vante Phillips were both rated among the top 12 receivers nationally, but neither lived up to that potential.
Campbell had a difficult time cracking the top WR rotation at Florida State and eventually transferred to West Virginia. Phillips played sparingly during his first two years before getting suspended following an arrest, and he eventually left the program.
