Stanford EDGE David Bailey is a potential transfer portal target for Georgia

DawgsHQ has reported on multiple occasions that Georgia will be targeting EDGE and defensive end in the spring transfer portal window. A player who could end up being a major target for the Bulldogs put his name in on Thursday — Stanford’s David Bailey.
Bailey is able to enter the portal before the window opens because Cardinal general manager Andrew Luck made the decision earlier this week to fire head coach Troy Taylor. That gives Stanford players a 30-day window to put their name in.
Through three seasons in Palo Alto, Bailey has racked up 111 total tackles, 14.5 sacks, and 23 tackles for loss. He’s coming off the best seasons of his career where he piled up seven sacks, eight tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries, and five forced fumbles.
Bailey did his best work against the Cardinal’s toughest opponents. Four of his sacks came against ranked teams — Syracuse, SMU, and Notre Dame. Both the Mustangs and Fighting Irish were College Football Playoff teams. Bailey also had a pair of sacks against North Carolina State in 2024.
A member of the 2022 recruiting class, Bailey, who played his high school ball at Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Calif., was a rated as a four-star prospect per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the No. 62 overall prospect in that class and the No. 8 EDGE. He was also the No. 4 player in The Golden State. Georgia was not among his reported offers during his recruitment.
The Bulldogs are in need of EDGE players via the portal due to post-season departures. Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams forewent their senior seasons to enter the NFL Draft. Both are likely first-round picks. Georgia also lost a pair of 2023 signees in Damon Wilson and Samuel M’Pemba. Both entered the transfer portal and both will be staying in the SEC. Wilson is at Missouri and M’Pemba is at Texas A&M.
