Standout CB Ben Hanks eyeing decision in coming weeks
It’s set to be a big month of contemplation for top 100 prospect Ben Hanks, as the four-star cornerback is beginning to narrow his focus and hopes to have a decision made in the very near future.
“Late July, early August,” Hanks told DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell of his planned commitment window. “I’m looking for the culture, the environment, the coaching staff, just a place I can call home. I’m looking at the development part of it, the education part of it. That’s two of the top things.”
And right now, there are a trio of schools well poised for his services.
“I’d definitely say Miami, Florida, and Georgia (are recruiting me the hardest),” Hanks said.
When it comes to the Canes, Hanks has a unique opportunity to stay close to home.
“Miami is a great program,” he said. “They’re trying to get back to the standard. It’s a great environment and the hometown team. I feel if I went I’d just be in the backyard there. That’s what I love about Miami.”
With the Gators, there’s the appeal of following in family footsteps.
“I know my Dad had a legacy there. For me to go there, it would continue the legacy,” Hanks said. “With Florida, it’s a great opportunity. They have the coaching staff, the environment there, and it’s a winning program. The winning mentality there is amazing. Coach Napier wants me to be a Gator, stay home, and continue the legacy.”
As for the Bulldogs, those who lead the way in the secondary have made quite a mark in his mind.
“Georgia has Coach Kirby [Smart], Coach TRob [Travaris Robinson], and Coach Donte [Williams], and they’re all great coaches. Coach Kirby is the next Nick Saban, so he’s done a lot of winning over there. They have that winning mentality, and they’re all great coaches. I love them all.”
Hanks ranks as the nation’s No. 90 overall prospect in the Class of 2025, as well as the No. 10 cornerback in the cycle.
Ben Hanks just named All-American
While he’s contemplating his collegiate home, Hanks didn’t have to think too long about accepting a prestigious honor over the weekend, being selected as an Adidas All-American for his efforts on the field.
“I felt blessed, and I thank God for the opportunity. He’s blessed me, so I have to keep grinding and keep working. It took a lot of work and a lot of effort to get into this position, so I’m grateful. I feel I should’ve been here, but I followed the process and got it,” he said.
