Spring Pulse Check: Ole Miss excited for young talent on the defensive line

Ole Miss wrapped up spring ball with one of the most unique “spring games” we have seen in college football. Lane Kiffin‘s 2024 team is, on paper at least, one of the most talented groups in the country. The Rebels are currently sitting at -133 odds, per FanDuel, to make the College Football Playoff in 2024-2025. But the future of the program is looking just as bright.

OMSpirit spoke with Ole Miss defensive line coach Randall Joyner about three of his incoming freshmen. The staffer gives his take on the spring performances and outlook for the fall.

“He has all the physical tools, strong at the point of attack,” Joyner said. “He has a burning desire to be great. Kept getting better as spring went on.”

The 6-foot-6, 265 pound prospect was the No. 81 overall prospect, No. 10 defensive lineman and No. 1 player in Mississippi in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“(He) was limited due to his shoulder injury,” Joyner said. “He has good movement skills and kept getting better, though.”

Rush was the No. 293 overall prospect and No. 30 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was also the No. 9 player in Mississippi.

“Didn’t do spring because of foot surgery,” Joyner said. “He had a really good winter workouts, though. Has good movement skills and pass rush ability.”

Clark was the No. 753 overall prospect and No. 24 athlete in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was also the No. 20 player in Tennessee.
