Top-ten guard Jordan Lee announced her finalists and South Carolina made the cut.
Lee is the ninth-ranked player in 2024 and the third-ranked guard. She announced her top 11 on July 2. South Carolina is a finalist, along with Michigan, Southern California, Baylor, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Arizona, Texas, Florida State, and Stanford.
Lee is a defensive-minded big guard who can also fill up the stat sheet. Injuries to other players forced Lee to add point guard responsibilities as a junior, and she shot almost 40% from three and averaged 20.1 points with a career-high 47 in the state tournament.
South Carolina offered Lee in April 2023, which is unusually late. But that late offer means the Gamecocks saw something they liked in Lee. Lee considers her defense the most important part of her game, and it’s safe to assume that is what caught South Carolina’s eye.
So far, South Carolina does not have any public commitments for 2024. However, Dawn Staley tweeted that a birdie flew into the nest, her usual phrasing for a commitment, on Friday, June 30. That player has not yet gone public.
