South Carolina made the top five for 2024 forward Mackenly Randolph. What makes this interesting is that Randolph had not been on my radar, and I can find no previous mention of the Gamecocks being involved with her. Nobody from South Carolina’s coaching staff follows Randolph on social media, which is usually a pretty good indicator a player won’t be signing with the Gamecocks.

Over the weekend, South Carolina got its first 2024 commitment, from point guard Maddy McDaniel. This week is a recruiting shutdown, so don’t expect movement on the recruiting front.

South Carolina is basically down to seven recruiting targets in this class, and realistically probably less. McDaniel’s commitment doesn’t close the door on Jaloni Cambridge but also doesn’t bode well. I still think Justice Carlton (Texas) and Sarah Strong (NC State) are longshots. That leaves Joyce Edwards, Jordan Lee, and Kennedy Smith. Add all three and it’s another great class. Add Edwards and either Lee or Smith and it’s a really, really good class.

Duke announced its non-conference schedule Monday and the series with South Carolina will resume. The Gamecocks play at Duke on December 3. That brings South Carolina to an expected 26 games for next season. South Carolina can schedule three more games (or two with a multi-team event, which is doubtful). Look for an HBCU that won its conference last season to be added. Dawn Staley likes those games as a preview of a first-round tournament game.
