Sooners Momentum Keeps Building

Without question one of the more interesting storylines to follow over the past few weeks is Alliance, Ohio quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg and his Sooners recruitment. And after being offered by Oklahoma on July 18 he came down to last weekend’s Party at the Palace. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound three-star quarterback is committed to Northwestern but the Sooners hoped to give him something to think about.
And after talking to Zurbrugg, it’s clear they accomplished their goal.
“Definitely just being able to get to know the coaching staff and some of the other recruits. The coaching staff is as good as it gets, they’re great coaches and great people,” Zurbrugg said of the Sooners.
What makes Zurbrugg’s situation so interesting – beyond his own wild scenario, that we’ve already detailed – is, obviously, Oklahoma already has a quarterback committed. And over the weekend Zurbrugg got to meet the Sooners current 2024 quarterback pledge, Michael Hawkins.
“We talked, he’s a great dude and we got a long pretty well,” he explained.
Zurbrugg isn’t quite ready to detail his future plans but the Sooners definitely made a big impression.
Sooners 2025 WR Momentum Keeps Rolling
Last week Oklahoma picked up it’s latest commitment of the class of 2025 when in-state star Elijah Thomas picked the Sooners. He was Oklahoma’s second receiver pledge, joining Gracen Harris, but is Emmett Jones going to keep his momentum rolling?
There is some belief that he might do that very thing. And do so by adding to the Sooners already impressive in-state haul, Oklahoma City Millwood’s Jaden Nickens. The On3 Industry’s No. 2 player in the state would be another huge win for Oklahoma and it’s one we feel the Sooners are closing in on.
And we’ve got enough confidence to put in a prediction for Oklahoma to continue Jones’s overhaul of the receiver room.
Is it a Two-Team Battle for Brix?
Following visits to what is believed to be his final three, there is some belief that top 100 offensive lineman Grant Brix could come to a decision. On Thursday Brix visited Kansas State before continuing south to see the Sooners on Friday. Finally hitting up Lincoln, Neb. on Sunday to see the near hometown Huskers.
And while there’s no clear indication of an imminent decision it does feel like the finish line is drawing closer. The Sooners continue to feel good about their chances after their most successful visit to date. Nebraska seems to share the sentiment and has the clear advantage of proximity that is a key to Brix.
Perhaps most interesting for Oklahoma was the chance for Brix to be around three prospects who could be part of his line class, were he to choose the Sooners. And that’s a reality that Brix acknowledged when talking about his most recent Oklahoma trip.
“It went well, I was able to meet a bunch of new guys,” Brix said of Josh Aisosa, and OU commitments Isaiah Autry and Eugene Brooks.
It seems an open race but the more people we hear from it sounds like an old Big Eight battle, Oklahoma and Nebraska. The Sooners have offensive line production to the NFL while Nebraska has being 90 minutes from his home. This race should be a photo finish but feels like it’s beginning it’s final lap.
