Sooners continue push for Williams Nwaneri, David Stone

You want to know how to get Sooners fans even more excited? Just try telling them that two of the most sought-after defensive prospects are five-star guys.
More? Tell them that one of them is now the No. 1-ranked prospect in the entire class. Not just top 10 or even top five, but No. 1.
That’s what can still be for OU and the 2024 class after the latest On3 recruiting rankings update Monday afternoon.
Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri is officially in the top spot for On3 and No. 3 overall for the industry composite rankings.
OU has been in tremendous standing with Nwaneri for a long time and nothing has really changed in that regard. Tennessee, Georgia and Missouri remain lurking, but the Sooners still have a solid lead in the RPM (Recruiting Prediction Machine) percentages. OU is at 80 percent, but everybody knows the race is far from over.
Joining Nwaneri in five-star company is Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive lineman David Stone. The Del City, Okla., native is ranked No. 13 by On3 and six spots better at No. 7 overall in the industry composite.
The Sooners had both in for official visits last month and have every reason to still feel incredibly confident. It’s just going to be about closing by head coach Brent Venables and the rest of the OU staff.
Neither Nwaneri nor Stone have mentioned a commitment date.
Mitchell cracks top 100
And now we know where OU’s newest commit stands. Los Alamitos (Calif.) High tight end Davon Mitchell made a lot of Sooner fans happy Saturday by picking OU. The added bonus, of course, was Mitchell reclassifying from the 2025 class to the 2024.
Mitchell’s ranking is sure to be adjusted, but On3 puts Mitchell at No. 126 overall. That makes him the No. 2-ranked commitment for OU in this cycle. Mitchell is currently No. 83 overall in the industry composite after making the classification move.
Kearney still No. 1
Wide receiver commit Zion Kearney remains in the top spot for the Sooners. He is No. 62 overall in the industry composite and No. 72 by On3.
A look at the OU commits in the On3 300. Safety Jaydan Hardy is not ranked for On3 but is No. 196 in the composite.
*No. 72 WR Zion Kearney
*No. 126 TE Davon Mitchell
*No. 197 WR Ivan Carreon
*No. 252 LB James Nesta
